I booked for my guest. I booked online from Australia. She arrived to check in. They did not have the confirmation number, and no one would help. I called Expedia, who said, they would be too late updating the information, and that's why. I should not be allowed to book the hotel, if I can't get in. I want a refund, obviously, and when booking Chinese hotels from overseas, Expedia clients should beware of this problem.
