I never actually stayed at the WoodSpring Suites in Greenbelt, Washington, DC Northeast, due to one of the worst transactions I’ve had on hotels.com. I expect any facility promoted by this platform to meet at least basic hotel standards, especially when charging over $100 per night. This property was an eyesore. Upon arriving at night, I saw people smoking marijuana right by the entrance. The reception area had no functioning air conditioning and was filled with a few unsettling individuals loitering around.
The receptionist immediately told me the hotel was fully booked and that only a “handicapped” room near reception was available. He invited me to see it. The room was shabby, with stained linen, dilapidated furniture, and a strong human odor. It was not a place I would stay in for even one night.
What made the experience worse was the realization that hotels.com had made a reservation that was clearly not guaranteed and had recommended such an unclean, unsafe-looking property. I was left both shocked and disappointed that a platform I trusted could be so unreliable and could promote a place so far below acceptable standards.
