My family's experience was unacceptable. We had paid for our reservation in full through Hotels.com prior to our arrival. We arrived late and were exhausted with a small child.
Upon attempting to check in, we were informed that a credit card was mandatory for an "incidentals" hold. The hotel would not accept a debit card for this hold, despite the room already being paid for.
Because I did not have my credit card with me, the hotel refused to allow us to stay. We were stranded late at night and were ultimately forced to sleep in our car with our small child at a nearby truck stop.
As an individual whose husband travels weekly and stays in hotels often (as a lineman), we have never encountered a mandatory "credit card only" policy for an incidentals hold, particularly at a 2-star establishment.
I have lost my money and Hotels.com rewards points, but most importantly, this lack of flexibility and common sense caused an immense amount of distress and ruined our travel plans. I do not recommend this hotel to any traveler.
