Disappointing experience.
I have been wanting to stay at Ember Locke for quite some time due to the good reviews and quiet location in South Kensington compared to the city centre of London. The hotel is in close walking distance to Earls Court (5min walk), where the tube takes you pretty much anywhere you want to go in London.
The hotel itself is cozy and very welcoming. I like the design and orangey theme they have. The staff is kind and helpful but very slow, bring time and patience.
We arrived late on a Friday evening close to midnight. We were given an upgrade with two adjacent rooms on the lower ground floor, which was a nice gesture I thought. When we got to the room one of the bathrooms had an awful smell, which I believed to have come from the drains. Nothing unusual on the lower ground in an old building but to my shock the bathroom hasn’t been cleaned properly! We resorted to the second room, where the towels had been used in the bathroom as well. To make the story short, I didn’t feel comfortable after that initial experience and got very picky lolloping around the room, the curtains very dusty, headboards not cleaned. We had two single beds as one, the toppers could need a proper shaking, the mattress was too hard for me and the pillows felt like a rock. Overall I am not happy with the stay but we were given complementary breakfast for one morning.
