The stay wasn’t too bad. I give it 3 1/2 out of 5 stars. The bed was not properly cleaned. There were crumbs and pieces of paper on there. I’m assuming left over from whoever stayed there prior to me.

This Hotel is ridiculously dirty. Smells like mold, feces, urine and anything else you can think of. The bed sheets were clean, although the pillows had a disgusting smell. The receptionist at the front desk was extremely rude. We politely asked “are we able to get early check-in because we need to be somewhere at 3:30pm”, she made a snarky remark saying “ And I need to get you a clean room”.

This location is stark. The staff are quite good,and friendly. But there was often trash in the hallway leading to the elevators. Cigarette burns on the walls of the elevators and on the counter in our room. Curtains were inoperable. Our last night was totally disrupted by a fire alarm at 12:30 a.m. No fire located. Needless to say all guests had very little sleep that night. I recommend someone from corporate visit this site soon. Complimentary coffee, etc. was meager at best.

I am writing to file a formal complaint regarding my experience related to my reservation through Hotels.com at Extended Stay America – Rutherford, NJ (750 Edwin I. Ward Sr. Memorial Hwy) on April 23–24, 2025. I booked through Hotels.com for my brother, his wife, their 9-year-old autistic child, and my sister’s 10-year-old son to visit the American Dream Mall. Upon calling the hotel directly to request a two-bed room, I was told changes had to go through Hotels.com, though two-bed rooms were available. When Hotels.com attempted to assist, your team was unable to reach the property. On April 24, despite multiple calls, no confirmation of the room change was received. At check-in, the front desk said two-bed rooms were available but could only be booked online. After further issues, I contacted Extended Stay Guest Relations directly, who created a new one-night reservation for a room with two beds, but the desk staff at the hotel remained uncooperative. The front desk agent escalated the situation without cause and refused to extend the stay, even after I remained calm and respectful. Ultimately, I was forced to seek alternate lodging at another hotel. I request Hotels.com investigate this matter thoroughly, review communications related to Hotels.com’s attempted contacts with the Rutherford property, and take corrective action. This experience caused major inconvenience and undermined trust in Hotels.com’s partners and service quality.

I would not recommend using Hotels.com first of all. 1. Got to the hotel at 3:15 pm; check-in was 3:00 pm. 2. Booked 2 rooms. Would not give the 2nd room to us because I wanted to change the name for payment. I wanted to pay for both rooms. I had ID, and the person whose name it was on the room had ID. 3. The receptionist said the hotel can't change a 3rd party's booking to their own hotel. 4. Had to call Hotels.com. 1st time on hold and got hung up on. 2nd attempt hung up on again. Finally 3rd time got through. Finally, after 30 minutes was able to get the room name changed via a hotel.com phone call, providing no ID. 5. 3:00 was check-in. Able to get into 1 room. 6. No cart for luggage; no offer to help from staff. 7. The receptionist at 3:45 pm stated the 2nd room was not ready yet, even though check-in was at 3:00 pm. She stated the room would be ready in 15 minutes and would call me in the other hotel room. 8. She never called me in that room, and at 4:50 pm, I had to go down to the front desk and inquire. She stated she was just notified the room was ready. 9. Now my children and I are late for our dinner party. With no apologies. 10. No conditioner. No extra towels. 11. The hotel floors and rooms smelled like old smoke. 12. The dust and smell caused my kids' allergies to be uncontrollable. 13. Tried to find another hotel, but no vacancies anywhere. Spring Break

smelled terrible in the area as soon as you get out the car of a swamp the location carries an unpleasant odor. It is the cheapest hotel for a reason. Be very careful booking last minute. VERY CAREFUL they will accept reservations last minute. Not provide a room then charge you for it and claim a no show. Whether you attempt to get a room or not. Customer service means nothing to them. Nobody can help you once the money is gone. extended stay corporate number is absolutely useless. I am 4 emails and 3 calls deep and honestly I Just accept and will tell anybody who will listen please stay away.

I have never complained about any run down hotels/motels but this is by far absolutely the worse. From the front desk not having any kitchen supplies in stock that is advertised to the loud bangs that weren't controlled due to the Front Desk woman sleeping on the job ignoring calls. We went downstairs to find her asleep in the back, rubbing her eyes - makeup all messed up - 100% sleeping at 7PM. Breakfast was terrible, not that I need hot eggs or bacon but the set up and packaged products could be better for the price. Now to the room, it doesn't even look like your Housekeeping is doing their job. The bathroom had toothpaste on the mirror and hair all over and we had to share one bed bc the other had food/dirt in it. The plumbing barely worked. Absolutely disguisting. I would love to get my damn money back because the price for this hotel was absolutely too high with what we were given. Lower the price for this dump and hire better staff. This place has potiential given the best location near events, please do better with your guests. Especially cleanliness. I have seen more run down places with better cleanliness and staff.

Overall, a great stay for the price! The lobby could use a bit of cleaning, but our room was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was simple (coffee machines, muffins, granola bars), but it was a nice touch. The front desk staff were great—especially during check-in, which was smooth and super helpful despite our very late arrival past check-in hours. Check-out was just as easy. For the deal we got, we couldn’t ask for more!

1. Room was smelly (like rotten fish), even after keeping window open, and using room spray! Seemed like they may have issues w/drainage that was kicking back into the room. 2. Hall way was smelling too (like someone puked) 3. Kitchen did not have any utensils in the room. Had to ask, but was provided only the next day. 4. Stove top had so much soot on it that it was sticking to the utensils. Now an extra effort to scrub the soot off utensils becomes an additional chore. 5. Stove top does not heat efficiently. Was very slow. Took approx. 3 times the normal cooking time. 6. When maintenance staff was called in, he said “this is normal” and left! 7. Better to carry your own soap & shampoo. Not worth mentioning the quality of the ones provided. Overall a disappointing experience!
