Calm and serene experience.
Lovely room, very comfortable bed and pillows. Amazing view from our room of the ocean. Stunning property and grounds. Very nice pool. Steps down to the great beach, lots of loungers and shade under the trees where you can spot Capuchin monkeys and other animals. Will stay longer next time. Highly recommend for rest, relaxation and good food. Very close to Liberia airport.

I don't know if I just drew the short straw, or everyone was dealing with the same issues, but I couldn't in good conscious recommend this hotel. The food is limited and rooms are outdated but the biggest issue I had was the electric in my room. The air conditioner would periodically just stop working and to get it working again we would have to call reception to have them send a maintenance worker to reset it. That would often take an hour or two to show up. Fine if it's in the day light hours but when it went off at 1am, you couldn't fall asleep. It was super irritating because the room temperature just got so hot and no employee on the property seemed to care. The property would loose power occasionally but that never lasted that long but you'd loose Internet and the AC would cut out. I think Costa Rica is a wonderful country and I would return but I would never come back to this resort.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Occidental Papagayo, an all-inclusive, adult-only resort, and I must say it was a truly beautiful experience. From the moment we arrived, the hotel's stunning architecture and lush surroundings took my breath away. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming, setting a positive tone for our stay. One thing to note is that while the hospitality was excellent, the English proficiency among the staff was somewhat limited. I recommend bringing a translator app to facilitate communication, especially for those who may not speak Spanish. Our room was clean and comfortable, though we encountered an issue with the safe which wasn't functioning properly. It’s good to remember that the hotel is only responsible for items secured inside the safe, so be mindful of that. Regarding entertainment, the television stations were primarily in Spanish, which was not a major issue for us, but something to consider if you enjoy watching TV during your downtime. Dining was a highlight of the trip! The buffet restaurant was impressive, with a daily changing menu that kept our meals interesting and delicious. Just a heads up: there are two specialty restaurants that require reservations, and they tend to fill up quickly, so it’s best to plan ahead if you want to dine there. For activities, we enjoyed kayaking; however, it’s essential to have one experienced and one inexperienced person in each kayak for safety. The massage with Dana was exceptional.

Property was a 9/10 landscaping was beautiful. Our room was ok. Buffet did not have that many options we ate the same breakfast same lunch everyday for 7 days. The snacks bar same thing nothing new. There’s 3 different restaurants but you need to reserve food wasn’t that great either. Another disappointing thing was the raccoons they are everywhere especially at night. Not to many activities during the day either and at night not much is being done to entertain the guests. That little gift shop is way too expensive they need to bring the prices of this items down a bit. And I was so disappointed when I see the beach look so different compared of what was advertised on their website I give it -1 yes seriously. Overall if you want peaceful vacation and don’t like to to much this place is for you. I made the best of it with my family. If you want to book cheaper tour and massages go downtown to the beach this people are more reasonable with their prices and go see Rosa for a nice 1 hour massage her price is very low.

My husband and I stayed here during the week of July 14th to 21st to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. Overall, we thought the property was beautiful and the staff was very accommodating. The food and drinks were very good, but we especially liked our dinner at the Italian restaurant. Our server Castillo was very kind and warm hearted. I would highly recommend the Occidental Papagayo!

This was by far our best experience with an all-inclusive. The grounds were well kept; the room was great; and the staff was amazing - always smiling and ready to help in any way they could. Almost all of them spoke english and tolerated our attempts at spanish! We can't say enough about Enrique. He made this the most memorable stay and went far beyond any expectations we had. His entire staff, but particularly Liseth, were hard working and always busy, and always happy (even while she was pregnant!). It was evident he was also a great person to work for. We will definately be returning. In fact we weren't home a week and started looking into when we could return! It was amazing - and we've traveled a bunch. Pura Vida!

Really enjoy the Occidental Papagayo resort! The majority of the staff is great, especially manager Enrique he helps me make my wife's birthday special, both times here! Other staff were so friendly and help when we need something ( Roy, and Carlos) thanks. Only wishes that next we stay here they provide local entertainment atleast once in weeks stay. And that we could have had restaurant dining 3 nights option instead of just 2 for week stay. We will be back!
