We love this hotel and restaurant. My only comment is that during the entire time we were in the dining room, there was an odd vibration coming from the floor. It was not there the next morning during breakfast. Railroad? Mining? Blue Origin? Who knows

El Capitan is a fun old hotel that is a convenient stop, and they have a good restaurant in house. The hotel rooms are clean, but very small, and while the bathroom is well appointed, it is even smaller! Hotel rooms are in need of some freshening up at this point.

Nice Vintage hotel that needs a service upgrade
The Capitan Hotel came highly recommended so we eagerly looked forward to our stay. The vintage hotel is charming with a cooling fountain in the front courtyard and nice historic architectural features. We had to wait awhile to be checked in. We had requested a queen bed room but were assigned a small double bed room with no explanation. The double bed had a pillowtop mattress that was very uncomfortable for two so we got very little sleep. At dinner, the food was decent (pasta with shrimp and greek salad with grilled chicken). Nice wine list. But service was terrible. It took 2 hours to get through a simple meal. We shared a dessert that they said was pecan bread pudding but it seemed to be a small pile of bread cubes overwhelmed by a quantity of bourbon sauce and a large handful of raw pecans. In short, we dont really recommend it. But if you want to experience the historic ambiance, be sure to be prepared to be specific about your reservation and meal time constraints.

Very comfortable!
We were traveling and looked up reviews on the Hotel El Capitan. It had good reviews and looked charming, so we booked. We didn't get much time to stay as we got in at midnight and were on the road again by 8am.

Comfortable and charming
The room has an old world charm especially the patio. The room is not large but offers all the modern amenities and the bed is extremely comfortable. Cookies, fruit and coffee are a nice welcome touch in the lobby , there are books to read, a puzzle to complete while waiting for companions. The staff is friendly and efficient.

Hidden gem
This hotel is beautiful! If you like older, throw backs to the past, antiques, nostalgia or hotels that tell a story, then this is the stay for you. I can tell you that the town doesn't have much to offer, but this hotel and its almost 100year old history does. Beautiful entrance, tile flooring, fireplace, restaurant, bar, gift shop, and even a puzzle to work gives this hotel a quaint charm. The front desk gentleman was very friendly, offered no hesitation in speaking with guests and ensured that our stay was special with a bag full of goodies and a smile. The linens were clean and comfortable and the towels were some of the softest I have ever used. This hotel offered cookies, water, coffee and a warm ambiance like no other.
