Great view, rate and clean

I was pleasantly surprised with the motel. The exterior and interior was clean and well taken care of, though the grass needed a mowing. The motel was on a hillside so the place had benches outside to sit on and observe the hills and other nice scenery.There was a nice playground for the kids and very dog-friendly.It was quiet and best of all the rooms on the first floor had sliding glass doors where you could step right out and get some fresh air. The only addition I would add could be that there be a chair outside on the patio!

Poor experience

My brother and I spent a few nights at this hotel, the Howard Johnson by Wyndham in Lexington, Virginia. It was a bad experience. The breakfast was really poor in diversity and quality. No eggs, no meats, no peanut butter, but only white bread and similar bagels, cheap jelly and cheap yogurt. Merely no fruits; just some apples. The orange juice provided was warm, which is absolutely disgusting. If you can’t provide a decent breakfast, don’t say the breakfast is included in your publicity. That is NOT a breakfast! It is merely a “light” snack. If you find that it cost too much to buy decent food, increase your fees a little bit, but serve a REAL breakfast! Also there’s a problem with the noise. I could hardly sleep because the noise coming from the traffic on Highway 81 was very loud, all day long, and all night long. Another problem is that there were « stink bugs » in the room close to the patio doors. Happily, they were dead but it was really disgusting to see them on the floor, and there was plenty of them. At least, remove there dead body when you clean the room ! Last thing, we are in spring 2025 and there is a lot of electric cars on the road. Well this hotel doesn’t provide any source of electrical power outside of the building to charge car battery. For this review, I can give a 4 on 10. Very deceiving. We will NEVER come back here, and also, we will make sure that all our relatives and friends will NEVER come here.

Clean hotel

The bed was very comfortable and the sheets were crisp and clean, the room was spacious. The bathroom tub needed some Clorax 2 it was dingy looking and the floor had hair on it.Otherwise it wasn't too bad. Breakfast could have used some eggs bacon and sausage and some pancakes.

I’ve stayed here before and found it not as clean as before. There was no place to put dog poop or bags to pick it up. There was dog poop near the children’s playground and you had to watch where you walked

Disappointed

Stayed as a stop-over while traveling. Picked based on positive reviews. However, was sorely disappointed. Room was dirty: dust covered surfaces, urine on toilet seat, staining on sheets, cigarette ash on floor. Booked a non-smoking room; however smelled of cigarette smoke. Unable to address concerns at checkout as front desk was unattended. Would not stay again.
Bathroom had clearly not been cleaned.

Not the old HoJos I remember.

Just a stop along the highway during a longer journey. Wanted to try for some HoJo nostalgia from family vacations 60 years ago. Similar but not quite the same as those days. This hotel is a getting tired with peeling and chipped paint, a little crud in the corners, a patched puncture in the tub. The room, bed and bath were very comfortable. Plenty of decent towels, loved the soap and shampoo. TV channels did not match with the card on display. Had to channel surf to find out desired shows. Breakfast was very simple with cereals, breads, waffles and beverages. Request a room AWAY from the highway to reduce the road noise.

Popular stay for good reasons

My second nonconsecutive nightly stay went well also. I stayed in a clean, comfortable room that wasn't dated, and the price was right. Every room in the building was taken that night, and I certainly see why. Thanks again.

Could have been better, could have been worse.

The hotel had the smell and look of an older hotel. It wasn’t kept the cleanest but it wasn’t disgusting. You can tell they do very basic cleaning which makes for an uncomfortable look of not kept up well. If you go through a 3rd party site make sure you say your details because they couldn’t see ours and we almost missed out on a whole other room that we had already paid for. They were defensive too when we said we had another room reserved. So when you go, know your details and wear shoes the whole time, and if sensitive to smells this isn’t the one for you.
