Hsinchu is modest in size, but possess a certain charm that makes city dwellers content with life and visitors captivated by the simple way of life in the city. It’s the oldest city in Northern Taiwan, so a fair amount of that charm is historical, though the nearby mountains also make it a good place to visit if you like the great outdoors. The city itself is fast growing into a hub of science and technology.

Best time to visit Hsinchu
Hsinchu’s weather is pretty cool most of the time, not least because of the vigorous winds that constantly blow in from the Straits of Taiwan. Summers attract more visitors than the winters, although the Lunar New Year celebrations are worth braving the cold weather for. If you are planning to visit between the end of November and February, be sure to bring a warm jacket.

Typhoons are common from July to October, and the rainfall may somewhat dampen your travel schedule.
Getting around Hsinchu
Getting around Hsinchu is fairly easy. The city is not a very large one, so you can hop on one of the buses plying the different routes in Hsinchu for a cheap way to enjoy a tour of the city. Otherwise, most attractions are easy to reach on foot.
