The hosts are wonderful and really make you feel welcome. It's obvious they love being hosts and are very proud of their beautifully restored 1912 home. The decor was unique but also respectful of the early 20th century vintage of the house. We stayed in the blue room, which was the only room that doesn't have a connected bathroom. But the room has exclusive use of the bathroom down the hall which we could keep locked.
The rooms are reasonably priced for all the amenities you get, including one of the best home-cooked breakfast spreads we've ever had: eggs, bacon, grits, cheese-covered hashbrowns, and incredibly perfect biscuits! They also provided fruits, yogurt, cereal, orange juice and coffee. We had a small coffee pot and mini fridge in our room, and there was a table in the hall with a microwave, condiments, and a plate of cookies!
If you think there's nothing to do in Sumter - it is a small town. But we were surprised by a weekend full of activities including an Oktoberfest celebration just a few blocks away where there were restaurants, bakeries, shops and street entertainment. There was also an outdoor sports expo happening at the local Ace Hardware with music, kids activities, dog swimming demos, and meats being grilled to sample.
We came to Sumter to meet family, and booked the 1912 B&B because it was not expensive and included breakfast. Our stay was the best part of the trip and we would definitely recommend it. If interested, ask about their ghosts!
