After being delayed for hours at the airport, I finally landed in Chicago. I got to the hotel, my uber left, and I approached the door, in an area of Chicago that is relatively unsafe (like many in the city.) I had about $10k worth of camera gear in my backpack, keep in mind. The door is LOCKED, and though I had a clear view of the front desk, NO ONE is there. For at least 10-15 minutes, I'm stranded at night and feeling very unsafe. I call the front desk with the number listed. UNKNOWN NUMBER. I was starting to freak out a bit, and then the front desk guy FINALLY appeared out of the ether. He said he was the only one working and apologized, and I did feel bad for him, but that just wasn't an ok experience. Also, any time I needed to ring the front desk once I was in my very underwhelming room, I would just get this weird alarm type of tone in my ear. I never got through after a dozen attempts throughout my 2 night stay. Honestly - just pay the extra hundred or so for the Hyatt. It will pay dividends.
