Past its best
The photo is misleading and the 4 star rating is inaccurate - it is 2 star. The old house has history and the room with the bay window was very comfortable, but the place is deserted and feels much like a sleepy Australian outback hotel when you have to shout hello to get someone's attention, and the pub is not manned and not open. I cannot comment on other rooms and if you like to be left alone then I suppose it is good value as it is cheaper than other places in the area. There is only breakfast which is rank standard. You have to go out for meals.

Very disappointing stay
The 1st room according to the Manager was never supposed to be rented out. It was dirty, the cup and plate were so dirty it was sticky. The carpets were dirty, dust all over and the couch sponge was pealing out. It was a disgrace. The Manager moved us to another room. No DSTV, the kettle was liking, by the 2nd day no toilet paper. and it seems that the bathroom floor was not cleaned. The room was better. The Manager did feel bad and offer us 2 days to come and visit. It was not a nice experience, and it seems that I was hacked, and they did not receive the 2nd night payment. He was kind to offer us to stay for free. We decided rather to go home, no room service in the morning to clean and nobody there to supply us with toilet paper. The Manager also gave us a bottle sparkling wine that we really appreciate. It was so disappointing. We also took Fotos of the 1st room. I will not recommend Riebeek Valley Hotel. They really need to change their view on cleaning the Hotel. It is a beautiful place.

The hotel room and staff where wonderful. The only thing is that the place in general is run down and needs some work done. The indoor pool area is not very welcoming its untidy. But nevertheless it was a great place.

Slightly faded hotel with somewhat shabby décor, but situated in an amazingly beautiful setting with lovely colonial furnishings. Courtney and her staff are friendly and the breakfast is perfectly acceptable and filling. Rooms are either inside the hotel with Victorian period fixtures and fittings or outside, with more ordinary furniture, but with showers. Excellent value for money but don't expect glitz.

Disgusting, will not recommend
The carpeting was filthy, the cupboards where damaged, no TV, no lights in building, no lights to our room, gate locked. Checked in morning, came back later, terrible situation. Security opened the gate and we had to find our way in darkness. Breakfast was oily and disgusting. What you advertise and show on your webSite, might have applied 25 years ago, but certainly not today. This should not even be advertised as a place to stay.

It's an old building, not very well kept, but there is hot water and a bed with a mattress that needs replacing. Generally ok, maybe slightly over priced. Room 14 didn't have a kettle. The signage could do with a little tlc, don't go in at the back gate off of Langstraat...

Bad management
Website is misleading. Hotel needs a lot if TLC as does pool and garden. Very bad attitude from Johan the manager. I am not given access to the owner directly so that I can lay a complaint but am being "dealt with" by the admin/reception staff via email.

Pleasant accommodation with indifferent management
As a seasoned business and leisure traveller this place has one of the worst management staff I have ever come across. After having a pre-paid reservation and notifying the hotel via email that I will be checking in at 11pm they were apparently not expecting me when I arrived. The attitude of the person on duty wasn't that of someone who works in hospitality. Not rude, but certainly not courteous or welcoming at all. I was shown to my room and not given any further info regarding b'fast or anything else for that matter. The room was sufficient, clean and pleasant with working AC. Both the bedroom and bathroom have protruding lights and this meant that the room wasn't sufficiently dark - no blackout drapes. Whilst they advertise 'satellite' tv only 1 channel worked with sound and that was a 'crime' channel. No mnet or movie channels as per description were found even after I tried to tune this ancient tv myself. Had to look up breakfast times and walked to breakfast just before 9am. The front desk lady was neither welcoming nor courteous or informative. I think they charge you to smile in this place. B'fast was pleasant and the b'fast lady staff was friendly. It would seem that the management attitude here is very indifferent to hospitality norms. They didn't really seem to give a damn. No smiles, no courtesy, no information, no engagement with the guest whatsoever. Whilst the accommodations were most certainly pleasant I will most definitely not return. No wifi in rooms.

Hotell i vacker trädgård
Hotellet har en gammal och en ny del. Den nya delen är tråkig, medan den gamla har mycket trevliga rum. Bra frukost och en delvis fin stor trädgård. Det finns ingen utomhuspool som det står. Den är igenväxt.

Well situated in Riebeek West
From the minute we walked in the front door I knew we had mad a great choice - happy, pleasant wanting to help staff. Room was superb (room 2) only negative was a huge bath with only a hand held shower - no stand up shower and the area is in the midst of a serious drought. Facilities well kept - great gardens. Restaurant was excellent - wines very reasonably priced. Actually everything was great value for money. We were told the manager was away - the staff did him proud

We will return!
Enjoyed our stay as well as the dinner and breakfasts. Only concern is that the room is gloomy due to excessive use of woodwork. The gardens showed the effects of black frost that they had experienced but should be beautiful in summer.
