Great place to stay close to Dartmouth and the coastal path. Very comfortable bed with new white linen. Hot powerful shower. Would stay here again.

Great stay
Hotel was a brilliant base for a short stay to visit family. Very evident that the owners have spent a considerable sum upgrading the hotel, in areas its modern clean and finished to a lovely standard. Some retro features like our room door lock still remain but ultimately don’t matter. Great staff, great breakfast each morning. Look forward to returning in the summer!

Charming in a laid back, whats wrong with the 70's
If you want a laid back hotel, with friendly staff, that feels like your staying at some old aunts house, who has just given up with trying to stay modern, this is a great place to go retro! Staff are so friendly, just in some time warp!

Not what we expected.
We didn’t get off to a good start as were told no food was available due to a Christmas party being held. We were told we could have the party meal at a cost of £29.99. Having already eaten a main meal we didn’t want another. After complaining to a manager sandwiches were provided. Our room was lovely but there was a few issues. To fill the kettle we had to climb into the bath as the sink was too small to be able to fill the kettle. My husband had problems getting in and out of the shower. He has reduced mobility and no hand rail is provided. The second night we stayed we went down for a drink. The lounge area was very cold. On speaking to one of the owners we understand they have just taken over and have quite a few issues to sort. Overall we were disappointed mostly to do with communication. We should have been told in advance about the limited food options and given the option to cancel or find an alternative. We choose not to eat any other meals at the hotel due to the issues incurred and spent our money in other local venues.

The location was excellent for exploring S West Devon, either by car or by the very convenient public transport. While some areas of the hotel were in need of some TLC it was obvious that the owners were carrying out plans of refurbishment!

Stoke Lodge is in a lovely village and surrounding area. We understood that it is a hotel in transition as new owners only took over last year, they have done up some areas, the leisure pool area was great. The food was of a high standard, staff were friendly and helpful, but obviously some areas notably stairs and landings etc were worn and tired. This will be a hidden gem when all the renovations have taken place.

Shame the Receptionist could not ask the Chef if he could make us something when we arrived at 7.40 and the Kitchen closed at 8.30. Apparently it was fully booked? The kitchen was fully booked haha. I have stayed a fair few places across the world but a Receptionist who knows the Chef can’t produce you some food without going and asking them is a first! That said the breakfast was great, the staff at breakfast lovely. Hotel owners be careful who you employ on front desk as they can make or break a review. No welcome, no warmth. Here’s a print out with WiFi on an no I am not going to go and see if the Chef can make you anything as I already know the kitchen is “fully booked”.

I'm so glad we did, it was our 28th wedding anniversary and we had such a lovely time. The outdoor pool was a real bonus for me. Great being so close to Dartmouth and Slapton, both places we love. All the staff were very friendly and attentive.

Staff were lovely and very personable and helpful. Unfortunately the condition of the hotel is very tired and in need of renovation, and sound carried very easily not only between rooms but also from the bar area downstairs to the rooms upstairs meaning it was easy to be disturbed by other guests late into the evening and from early in the morning. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom in lovely condition - looked like it had recently been redone - but unfortunately there was no hot water in the morning so I was not able to test out the shower.
