While the staff at the Westgate were friendly and welcoming, my family's experience with the cleanliness of our room was deeply concerning and ultimately ruined our stay. Upon checking in, we unfolded the sofa bed only to discover a random old sock tucked within the bedding. This immediately made us question how thoroughly the room was cleaned. Our unease grew when we noticed multiple stains on the sheets, making us highly skeptical about whether they had been washed after the previous guests.
The lack of cleanliness extended to the bathroom. We found a dead roach or beetle in the bathroom trash can upon arrival. Even more troubling were the numerous gnats swarming the bathroom ceiling and scattered throughout the room. While these tiny insects didn't bother us by flying directly at us, the thought of them potentially ending up in our drinks if left uncovered overnight was unpleasant.
Further inspection of the room revealed a charging port located right under a chair, raising more questions about the thoroughness of the cleaning process. It felt as though obvious areas were being missed.
To add to our disappointment, the "fresh" towels we requested from room service had a distinct and unpleasant burnt rubber smell, most likely due to an overheated dryer. This made them unusable.
Due to these significant issues with cleanliness, the Westgate NYC is not a hotel I would consider staying at again.
