We stayed at this hotel because of Hurricane Ian hitting Tampa Bay, turns out it moved South and came directly to Orlando. We arrived on Tuesday, a day prior and check in was easy, great staff on site, great restaurant but no bartender that night so beer or wine. That’s fine - stuff happens. The room was fine and we were able to bring our dog.
The next morning upon waking, the hotel was flooded, including the room. I called the front desk to inform them but it turned out the entire first floor was flooded, which is beyond anyones control. The rooms were not cleaned up after the water receded, they only used a shop vac if you requested them to clean up the water.
The electric outlets starting making popping sounds and we could smell smoke, lightly at first but enough to pack the car in case we had to run out. I called the front desk to let them know this could cause a fire and they told me there is nothing we can do about it. I let two maintenance men know as well. The hotel was sold out so we couldn’t move but the popping got so loud and the smell of smoke was strong so we were going to sleep in the car. Thankfully a tow truck driver was helping someone and he towed us to dry land so we could leave.
We left a day early because of safety. I didn’t even ask for a nights refund because our lives were worth more. We let our neighbors know so they would be vigilant. Please take the guests safety into consideration. The electricity should have been shut off to prevent a fire.
