Highlights of Presidio Park
History enthusiasts are sure to be impressed by the rich past of Presidio Park. Before the appearance of Spanish pioneers, the area was home to the Kumeyaay. Once the fort and mission were built, the hill marked the epicentre of the new settlement.
When the fear of attacks had passed after the independence of Mexico, the fort was abandoned and the ruins were later used to build new structures in the area. The Presidio Hill structures were later preserved and the park was added along with the Junípero Serra Museum by philanthropist George Marston. In 1929 the park was turned over to the city.
