Just a wonderful place to stay always

Fantastic service, food and drink. Room was fabulous and well resourced. My only very slight issue was that breakfast did not start until 8am, in saying that the continental breakfast the night before for us was excellent.

Wonderful stay with the bears!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will definitely be back soon. Nice comfy beds and love all the traditional features of the property plus all the bear accents! All the staff were fabulous and friendly. Breakfast was great quality.

Great Stay Overall

We stayed in the Goldilocks room the room was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed... The bed was clean, but we could feel a couple of springs when lying down. Breakfast first morning was a 6/10 the bread looked and tasted cheap. The bacon was streaky and fatty. Second morning the bread was better quality but bacon still streaky and fatty 7/10. There is lots to do in the local area including the New Forest and a short drive to sea.

This is a lovely country hotel with beautiful rooms and really great food. Service was friendly and relaxed. Lots of beautiful small details in the room - lovely bathroom products, Nespresso machine, and chocolates to enjoy. The hot breakfast included in the price was really good and lots of choice to cater for all tastes!

Exceeded expectations

The room was really lovely. It had a comfortable bed, was clean and very homely. The atmosphere in the bar/restaurant was relaxed and the food was great. Nice theme throughout and lovely touches. We will definitely come back and stay here again.

Short stay

Very well appointed and comfortable room. Great breakfast. Only downside was lack of TV service in the room - you have to stream from your own device (which we couldn’t get to work). WiFi speeds very good.

The whole ambience of the Bear was good. Loved the style & decor of the place. Staff were efficient & friendly. Young grandchildren visited us in the afternoon & games were available for them in the bar. A thoroughly lovely stay - wished it was longer!

Excellent room and bathroom. Spotlessly clean and lovely fresh linens. Many amenities in the room. Nespresso, teas, milk, water, chocolates. Room even had air conditioning! Good evening meal and breakfast two. Lovely decor all over.
Suzanne, 1-night trip

6/10 Good

The biggest problem was the lack of a lift. As we are both mobile but elderly my husband had a heavy case to carry up a spiral staircase to the first floor. The lady did offer to carry it for us but there must have been ‘a man’ in the hotel. We had been previously allocated a top floor room but the lady kindly changed our accommodation to the first floor. We didn’t eat at the Hotel in the evening. We thought for instance the rib eye steak pricey.

Best so far in 2024

I stay away from home a lot and book different venues. This has to be the best room/ensuite I have stayed in so far in 2024 (now in October). Room was lovely, bed was super comfortable. There was a desk to work at in the room, wardrode for hanging clothes, good sized TV on the wall, chairs next to an easy table, wall fitted aircon unit. Ensuite was a great size, with a sensor night light so you did not have to turn on main light in ensuite. Breakfast does not start until 8am, but they do offer a continental breakfast if you have to leave early.

We stayed one night at The Bear and loved it! It’s a beautifully curated boutique hotel with lots of quirky and bear-themed art and accessories in the rooms and restaurant. Our room was immaculately clean, decorated really well with a Nespresso machine, kettle, air con and Dyson fan and a small table and chairs. It also had the largest bathroom we’ve ever had in a hotel with a huge walk in shower with rainfall head plus a bath! One small and unique detail was a voucher for a complimentary gin & tonic in the bar and chocolates (and the gin collection was quite something!). Staff were very good at check-in and attentive in the bar and at breakfast. Breakfast consisted of a cold buffet of pastries, granola, yoghurt, fresh fruit and juices then followed with a cooked-to-order choice. Food was delicious. Only 5-10 minutes from Christchurch harbour and Highcliffe in the other direction. All in all, our stay here was excellent and we would love to return again and would definitely recommend this beautiful hotel to anyone.

We stayed in a comfort room. Great idea to keep some rooms pet free, which ours was.Good range of quality toiletries provided. The curtains were long, thick and lined, so not woken by the early morning light. We live in a village with very little light pollution so bright light in a morning can be a problem. Room has bluetooth speaker so able to play our own music, It also has a coffee maker. Dinner was excellent. Simple food brilliantly executed +served really hot. Breakfast next morning was also wonderful. Plenty of choice + good quality. We stayed mid week, so no issues over noise. The hotel is a wedding venue, so could be an issue at the weekend. Our room overlooked the deck + again may not have been so tranquil in warmer weather if guests were drinking + chatting on the deck until late. All in all would not hesitate to stay there again. One suggestion would be to have a couple of small comfortable chairs in the room. to relax in, as you had to sit on bed. Room had a free standing full length mirror when wardrobe had one too?. Only criticism would be that the tel no on the website gave a message after 6.00 pm saying that the tel is only on 8.00 until 6.00. Transpired the call had gone through to Fullers. Guests should be able to call the hotel direct + talk to reception.

We had a brilliant time here. The hotel is beautiful. Our room was huge and had loads of useful things like water in the fridge, a fan, iron and ironing board, air con. We ate dinner there which was lovely and very reasonable. Drinks in the bar whilst playing scrabble was a fun evening too! Breakfast was really good, lots of choice and very tasty. It was super dog friendly and we loved seeing the dogs getting their sausages in the morning! All the staff were really helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely be back!
