Unfortunately, my stay at 1823 Spinning Block was far from the relaxing experience I’d hoped for. Despite paying for car parking on arrival, I still received a parking ticket—which was a frustrating!
The room itself was disappointing. The only source of heat was a bathroom radiator that stayed on from 3pm to 10am, making the entire space unbearably hot overnight. With signs warning guests not to open the windows due to midges, it became a very uncomfortable night’s sleep. To make matters worse, the view from the room overlooked a back alley where dogs were regularly doing their business—hardly the "charming" outlook you'd expect from a hotel in this price range.
Perhaps the most disruptive part of the stay was the wedding party hosted on the floor directly above. From 9pm until 2:30am, children were running up and down the corridors, and with no phone in the room to contact reception, there was no way to raise the issue without physically going down in person, when I did reception was unmanned.
On checkin the receptionist wanted a card for damages, I offered my AMEX card that I used for the booking but she told me they didnt accept that, so I reluctantly used a debit card.
Disappointing across the board. A hotel with potential, but unfortunately, the basics—comfort, peace, and guest support—were severely lacking.
