It's a motel and the location is pretty good. Everything is in walking distance since it's a small town. Yet, the lodge is too old and it's on the main street. You can hear everything, even the snores next door.

Great value for the money with Gold Rush era charm
Good value for the money, hotel is built in 1850 and maintains its Gold Rush era charm. You really feel like at a movie set about 1849. Nevertheless it's comfortable, with a/c in every room, very clean. Free breakfast in the morning, all cooked here, hot and fresh. Laundry room and pool. Plenty of free parking and it's on a main street in Sonora which is part of the historic Highway 49, with plenty of things to see and to try. Will definitely stay here again.

Bargain stays with tradeoffs
From outside, it looked great, but my room had no chair only the bed and a few nightstand tables. the hotel keeper turned the building lights off after midnight..it made walking around the property area kinda haphazard for guests coming back to the property after a night out because it was dark. Breakfast food selection not many choices..not sure if I'll book it again next time.

Hoping it's a work in progress
The staff were friendly and the room met our basic needs. If there had been a mini fridge, coffee pot, and cleaner(newer) carpet and bedding it would have been perfect. The hitel is an historic building full of charm.

The son was very nice and sadly it seemed as though he was the person who took care of every aspect of the place. I was told because I booked on Expedia I got the worst room and had to pay 118.00 to get a decent one, which brought my total for 4 nights from $465 to $583. The place is charming in the pictures but is in dire need of renovation and restoration. I’m certain it is not to code and is very unsafe in many areas. For the price the property lacks amenities and wish it at least had a little coffee machine in the room. Okay to stay for 1 night but if you stay longer it’s at you own risk.

It was an affordable price, but the bed was very hard, the traffic was so loud that it vibrated the room all day and night. The only good thing was that it was walkable to the downtown area.

There is no fridge or microwave. The furniture seemed like it was going to fall apart. In the closet there was a bunch of dirty rope on the top shelf. The decor was weird. It didn’t feel clean and the sheets were very coarse.

The hotel is old but we knew that, and it's something we like. Although it does need some TLC. We were in room 1 which is right next door to the manager's suit. They were loud in the evening. They do server breakfast in the dining room. but not much to choose from. Also, self-server.
