I had booked 2 rooms for Dec 15 through Expedia and received formal confirmation of the bookings. Upon arrival at the inn in the evening, I was told that they had no availability and had informed me by email a few hours earlier, i.e. when I was sitting on the plane! It took me a couple of hours, with help from the receptionist, to find alternative (more expensive) accommodation outside of town and get a taxi. The Inn stated that Expedia should not have confirmed the booking in the first place. When I complained to Expedia, they responded that I had not been charged by the Inn or Expedia and therefore everything was fine!! and the case closed. I will obviously use other more reliable and trustworthy online travel agents in future.
