By the time we rolled up into the Retiro Park Lodge, after several days in New Zealand already, I had had quite a bit of beautiful scenery. I yearned for something more than that, something that would set our trip to New Zealand apart. Victor and Robbert managed to provide such gracious hospitality, elegant accommodations, and good company that our whole vacation in the country was escalated to "best ever." Retiro Park Lodge was warmth, comfort, and humor. I never would have believed that I could book a room and come away feeling more like a friend than a customer.
The house and grounds are beautiful and boundless. My husband says the nights we stayed there were the only nights in the two weeks we were in New Zealand that he really slept well. I was (pathetically) grateful to finally have some good, free wifi. Victor gave us many very useful tips for our excursions, things we had not picked up from the travel books or websites. Robbert brought us with him when he went to feed Miguelito, the baby llama. Delicious breakfast was served in the greenhouse.
Really, a delightful experience on all counts. I can't rave about this place enough. And I am a picky person!
