Great hotel with Sounkyo Mountain View
Very well maintained and constant refurbished hotel since Showa period. Full of nature attractions. Dinner & breakfast are excellent. Hotel did many activities In conjunction w 70th anniversary. Souvenir shop has lots of Hokkaido related items. We can even observed deers in the wild. 3 big Onsen bath with excellent views. Due to very remote position, better to have self drive to for better access.

A popular hotel that is visited by tour bus of tourist. The carpark almost always seems full but still able to find lots. The restaurant is also crowded but still beathable. More chinese and english speaking staff here. The 3 baths are amazing. Room size is also comfortable.

Relaxing Luxurious Mountainside Hot Spring Hotel
Friendly and professional reception staff. Relaxing large clean and comfortable foyer/lobby. Clean, nicely designed well equipped room with a beautiful view of the nearby canyon and mountains. Three hot spring bathrooms to choose from. All excellent, and pandemic safe. Excellent/amazing waiter served Japanese dinner in a private room!! Excellent international buffet breakfast!! Something to please everyone! Good souvenir shop. It’s a Japanese style hotel, so there isn’t an international hotel style 24 hour coffee shop, choice of restaurants, room service or bar and so on.
Japanese dinner appetisers!! A lot more to come!

Since most of the guests are Japanese travelers, breakfast buffet consists mostly of Japanese items, very few are choices for Westerners. The dinners, however, are fabulous if you choose to have "kaiseki" style. We stayed two nights and the dinner items were different each time. This is an "onsen hotel" so there several choices of indoor and outdoor bathing facilities. There is a short Ainu entertainment presentation most evenings after dinner.

Good hotel with good onsen
Good hotel with three different spa on level 1,3,7, although vast differences in onsen. Level 1 onsen is old, level 3 is nice but small , level 7 onsen is the best and hence the price for the hotel. Fantastic buffet dinner , crabs and beef were the main point for us .

Not without its flaws but positive overall
Our stay at the Hotel Taisetsu was overall a positive one and the whole experience was truly once in a lifetime. The highlight of the hotel itself was by far the dinner buffet which was provided in the price of the room. The food was really incredible featuring exceptionally fresh sea food - the crab being the highlight. The main issue with the hotel itself is the overall condition. Our room looked very tired and the bathroom, whilst clean, had a very unpleasant aroma. It was disappointing since the rest of the experience was so special. The baths at the hotel were spectacular featuring panoramic views of the stunning scenery. The local area was just as awe inspiring as we hoped and we saw several wild deer during our walks around the area. Overall we would recommend the hotel since our criticisms seem to apply to all the hotels in the area, so it's something you just have to put up with if you want to stay in the stunning national park. The outstanding food and friendly staff certainly make up for the short comings. If you're after something akin to Spirited Away meets The Shining (in a good way), this is the place for you!
