Top neighborhoods in Lisbon

Baixa
Elegant district with earthquake-resistant architecture, the Baixa Pombalina features a grid of streets north of Praça do Comércio, extending towards Rossio and Figueira squares, and Avenida da Liberdade, known for tailoring shops and cafes.

Alfama
Lisbon's oldest neighborhood, Alfama boasts historical attractions like Castle of São Jorge and Lisbon Cathedral, while offering a labyrinth of narrow streets, Fado bars, and restored houses.

Chiado
Immerse yourself in a cultural and commercial hub, boasting luxury shopping, historic landmarks, and a variety of theatres and museums. Explore Chiado Museum, Carmo Convent, and Teatro Nacional de São Carlos, while enjoying easy access to the Baixa-Chiado metro station.

Bairro Alto
Bairro Alto's narrow cobblestone streets tell stories of 16th-century Lisbon by day, while transforming into party central by night. Browse quirky shops and admire street art while the sun's up. Later, follow the sound of haunting fado melodies into tiny taverns tucked between colorful buildings. Getting around is simple with three nearby metro stops and the historic Elevador da Glória funicular connecting you to lower districts. Traditional tascas serve authentic Portuguese dishes before the neighborhood erupts with bars and clubs that keep the energy flowing until dawn.

Príncipe Real
Príncipe Real dazzles with its perfect combo of old-school charm and cutting-edge cool. The neighborhood's stunning 19th-century mansions house trendy boutiques and design shops where you can score unique Portuguese treasures. Grab a spot under the massive 150-year-old cedar tree in the central garden, then explore the National Museum of Natural History or pop into the Amalia Rodrigues House Museum. The area's dining scene mixes upscale Portuguese restaurants with laid-back cafes perfect for people-watching. Getting around is a breeze with metro stops at Príncipe Real, Rato, and Restauradores-Glória. Boutique hotels in converted palaces offer stylish stays for travelers who appreciate both history and modern comforts.

Lisbon District and related destinations
Trams rattle up impossibly steep hills where ancient tiles cling to buildings that have survived earthquakes and revolutions. Rossio Square buzzes with locals debating politics over tiny cups of bica coffee that cost less than a euro. The Santa Justa Elevator lifts visitors above terracotta rooftops for views that explain why photographers never leave. At the Fado Museum, discover Portugal's soul-stirring music before experiencing it live at Fado in Chiado, where performers sing with such emotion that translation becomes unnecessary. Avenida da Liberdade offers elegant shopping, but the real treasures hide in Alfama's winding lanes. After sunset, join locals at miradouros (viewpoints) where the Tagus River reflects city lights like scattered gold coins.

Hotel Mundial
"Good place to stay in a good location. Spacious rooms but hallways seemed a bit dated/dirty"
Meliá Lisboa Aeroporto
"Breakfast was amazing"
EPIC SANA Lisboa Hotel
"The Epic Sana lives up to its 5-star status. The staff are a real asset to the hotel. HR do a fantastic job on the hiring front. Every member of staff was a pleasure to deal with. The rooms are nice and big and the roof-top pool is a wonderful amenity to have. The breakfasts were delicious. The only downside was the steep hill one had to climb when returning to the hotel from the city centre. Other than that, I couldn't but recommend this hotel to anyone seeking a 5-star hotel experience in Lisbon."
EPIC SANA Marques Hotel
"Outdoor pool and bar was amazing. It was on rooftop and view of Lisbon was incredible."
Tivoli Avenida Liberdade Lisboa – A Leading hotel of the world
"Great location , clean room , huge bathroom and tub. The bar and breakfast were amazing, I wish I had more time ."
Holiday Inn Lisbon by IHG
"We stayed at this hotel on our last night of our recent trip to Portugal. We had wanted to stay at a place close to the airport as we had to be there early for our flight home. We entered the inviting lobby to be greeted by friendly staff. We were easily assisted and checked in. The room we stayed in was a large well lit area. It had a balcony and patio, though we didn’t use it, was a nice surprise. The Bathroom was roomy, had lots of large soft bath sheets and had bath! This had been uncommon on our recent travels. This was a welcome appreciated relaxing option prior to a long travel home. I will say we chose a hotel chain we were familiar with as we had certain expectations usually included in previous stays. We were hopeful that if time permitted we would have breakfast in the morning of our departure. The breakfast was NOT included in the price of our stay though it was available in the area off of the sitting/gathering area. The price we had paid, we felt should have included the breakfast available in the hotel. The cost was high and with four travellers though it would have been very convenient, we opted to Not eat at the hotel before leaving for the airport the morning of our departure."
Hotel Star Inn Lisbon Aeroporto
"This was a great spot to stay at before an early morning flight. The airport is walkable from the hotel, about a 5 minute walk. If you have lots of luggage, there’s also a shuttle that runs every 15 minutes to take you on a few minute drive to the airport. The room was clean and breakfast was available for early flights."
Lisbon Marriott Hotel
"It was nice, clean and the people were very friendly"
Dorma Saldanha
"I had a wonderful stay. The room was clean and I had no issues. The parking was full but I think if booked in advanced it would be okay. They were also able to hold my bags for me while I explored the city after checking out. Great experience overall."

For a fulfilling experience, a stay of at least 3 to 4 days is recommended to explore the city's rich heritage, including its iconic monuments, museums, historical architecture, urban art, castles, shopping districts, and cathedrals. This affordable trip offers great value for money, allowing visitors to immerse themselves in the landmarks, history, and culture that define Lisbon's charm.
- Look for last-minute deals on Hotels.com: Discover discounted Lisbon hotel stays by exploring the DealsOpens in a new window section on Hotels.com. You may find enticing last-minute offers by checking the Last-Minute Deals area, where promotions close to your travel date could appear. Stay informed through email alerts or push notifications about flash sales and special offers. Additionally, use Smart Shopping via the Hotels.com app to compare hotel prices and amenities, ensuring you're more likely to see competitive options when prices drop or rooms become available. Happy savings on your Lisbon getaway.
- Be flexible with dates: Prices may fluctuate based on factors including the hotel's location, star rating, and time of year, so being flexible with your dates could help you save on your Lisbon hotel stay. For those seeking a unique experience, boutique hotels might offer a more personalized environment and sometimes better value. When you book with Hotels.com, we'll inform you if the price for your chosen dates is above or below the average, and if it's on the higher side, we may suggest more affordable dates to help you find a better deal.
- Consider your location: Remaining near popular attractions or downtown areas might offer convenience, but it usually comes with a higher price tag. For more affordable rates, consider accommodations in less central neighborhoods, which can balance cost with access to the places you plan to visit. You might also explore independent hotels located further out, as they more likely offer a budget-friendly and authentic experience.
