Outdoors at its best!!!

Amazing resort with well mantained amenities. Bathrooms were modern and new, the rest of th cottage was cozy. Service was fantastic and the manager and staff always efficiently fulfulling requests.

The property was well maintained and had been refurbished since our previous stay (50 y ago). Nice accommodations, excellent service, good and inexpensive food and drink; road to the property is potholed so take it slow.

Weekend away

The putt putt course was in very bad condition. The restaurant that we visited was very good but some of there meal were very salty. The spa does a couples package for the time of 5 hours but without the hydro pools etc. we only had the treatment and light meal which was 3 1/2 hours I feel that where there is no hydro pools they should amend the price accordingly. Other than that we had a great weekend

Weekend visit.

Great resort, a good range of activities to everyone busy during the day. Reception staff are unprofessional, at check-in you're required to make reservations for every night's dinner. Subsequently you're told certain restaurants are fully booked and you can only be accomdated the buffet restaurant. I then happily agreed to go to the buffet and make a booking at the Al a carte restraunt for dinner the next day. I had booked for dinner at the Bergview restaurant and on the evening of dinner I was told I did not make a booking. This was extremely unprofessional, I was told I could not get food at the resort as I supposedly 'did not make a booking'. After a few minutes the reception gentlemen called me back to say I can be accommodated at the buffet restaurant at 20:30. This was not a nice experience and no guest should go through this on vacation. On check out after paying my bill, I was told I could not get a receipt at their printer was not working.

Perfect Family Holiday no matter the weather

The food was great. Staff excellent as always. The resort itself has become a bitsy more dense... And built up, which takes a away from the 'in the mountain experience'. However the numerous new amenities were so much fun and you don't really feel that cramped as there are so many different playgrounds and things to do... Suitable for guests from kzn. Jhb residents... Do you really want to drive 7.5 hours with you do kids... Will be back in the near future just for the nostalgia...

Drakensberg Gardens Family Holiday

We loved every minute of our stay at the Drakensberg Gardens. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Lots of fun family activities to keep the whole family busy. Absolutely amazing mountain and river views. Beautiful area. Our kids loved the heated pool and slides. Only minor complaint - Restaurant food could be improved. Menus are also limited. Otherwise we so enjoyed it. We will definitely be back.

Mediocre hotel in a beautiful area

A very old hotel in a beautiful setting, but the rooms need refurbishing. Overall very expensive for what it offers. Also, WiFi is only available at reception and at extra cost.

I did not agree to the resort charging for every single activity that there was on offer. I think it costs enough to stay there and the activities should be included in that cost. My children were keen to do all the activities which ended up costing a fortune. My wife and I are also adventurous and wanted to do the zip lining etc which meant even more costs. I also found that the atmosphere was quite dull, the restaurant next to the pool wasn't opened on the Friday and on Saturday, it opened at night. The shop only opened at 2pm and when it rained there was nothing much to do as the heated indoor pool does not allow children. I was told I did not have to book for dinner but when we went to eat at 6:30 I was told I was meant to make a booking and it was fully booked. Luckily the manager made a plan, and so we had a buffet which I too thought was very expensive, as there were no starters and little dessert to choose from. I had made a booking to go in December, but we have now cancelled and will look elsewhere.

Bad experiences stick unfortunately

After check in, we were assigned our room, just to find...lights not working, door could not be locked (Mountain View rooms), no view whatsoever. After checking with reception we got a different room, which was acceptable and appreciated. The so called SPA is not even worth mentioning, Jaccuzi's are both in a desperate state of repair, not to mentioned the indoor pool, advertising this as a SPA resort is simply false advertising, which was one of the reasons booking this hotel. Food though was real great, however when going to the only 1 restaurant open that day, 7 - 8 Oct 2017, although the Hotel advertises 3 restaurant available another surprise having to argue with the restaurant staff, since we were not part of a tourist group, they after 3 x telling them our room number got almost rude, please Hotel Management train your staff to be friendly. Location is awesome, other staff encountered were friendly and helpful, reception staff was not really interestes in helping and blamed maintenance of the room issue. Don't think to be back at this hotel and rather go elsewhere next time.
