We paid over £400 for a one night stay with breakfast. Far more than we would normally spend but it was our wedding anniversary and we’ve had a difficult year so we felt we deserved it.
The Grand is grand but the stairwell and corridor carpets are seriously worn and the paintwork damaged.
The staff were friendly, efficient and helpful and very dog friendly. We had some delicious cocktails in the bar and a very good “all you can eat” breakfast. We had a late night room service dinner which was disappointing but then room service often is as the food isn't prepared by the restaurant
Our room was smaller than I’d expected from the website photos but it had a great sea view and had been renovated/updated recently to a very tasteful seaside “Poirot” style. The bathroom was also stylish and well appointed. Our pooch was given her own dog bed and complimentary treats. A nice touch. Our bed was huge, with loads of pillows and was very comfortable.
Our main concern was that our room was a bit grubby and tired despite the renovation. Scratches and scrapes, water damage, a squeaky wardrobe door, very small and slightly rough bathrobes, a leaky coffee machine, one hook for a bath towel, which was broken. I gave reception my feedback and showed them photos. They thanked me and told me they’d advise housekeeping. They did not offer me any kind of apology or discount - not that I was asking. What they did do was charge us an extra £20 for being 25 minutes late to check out!
