This was honestly one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve ever had. The staff were extremely rude and unprofessional from start to finish. The bell staff seemed helpful at first, but once they had carried the bags, they ignored us unless it was time to demand another tip. I was constantly reminded “we work for tips” — they expected $10 just for storing bags, then another $10 for taking them to the room.
The restaurant staff weren’t any better — distracted, on their phones, and generally uninterested in serving guests. We ordered food to the room, and the front desk wouldn’t even let the delivery driver come up. Instead, we had to tip both the driver and the hotel staff just to get our order.
On checkout, the same routine — we brought our own bags down, but staff jumped in just to carry them a few feet to the door and then held out their hands again. To top it off, we were made to wait while others checked in, as if we weren’t even there.
I’ve spent plenty of time in the U.S. and understand tipping culture very well, but this was beyond reasonable. It felt like every single interaction came with an expectation of money, paired with rudeness if you didn’t immediately hand it over. Bizarre, uncomfortable, and disappointing — I won’t be back.
