We stayed at this property for seven nights total. On one morning, around 9:25 AM, I walked out of my second-floor room and was hit by a suffocating, overwhelming chemical odor. As I ran to the stairs to escape, the facility manager walked past me wearing a full-face gas mask. Within seconds, I couldn't breathe, my eyes were tearing up, my throat was swelling, and I was coughing uncontrollably. Out on the street, I found other guests suffering from the exact same symptoms. Shortly after, the fire department arrived and evacuated the entire hotel.
When I returned around 6:00 PM, the front desk had no information. The hotel manager wasn't on site, but I managed to speak with the facility manager. He admitted there was an 'unknown chemical spill' in a second-floor storage room. Because of my severe physical reaction, I explicitly asked to be updated on the fire department's investigation so I could know what toxic fumes I had inhaled.
It has been a week, and Carey Lodge has completely ignored the situation. They have sent zero communication to the guests who were exposed to these hazardous fumes. This level of secrecy and disregard for guest health is unacceptable and negligent.
