Convenient location & parking
Stayed for just one night with our kids. Parking was convenient and I thought the rate we got with our room was ok for Wellington CBD. Lift system a bit confusing, there are different sets going to different floors, the signage for this could be a bit more prominent. Our room fittings were nice overall but there definitely still needs to be upgrades done, there was a huge crack in the plaster/paint of our window frame, but didn't affect our stay. Location was super convenient, easy to walk to most of the shops/restaurants, though it was all a bit dead on a weeknight. Highly recommend FRANK's down the road for breakfast or just a coffee, great spot, amazing cheese scones.

Lovely stay for 3 nights in Wellington
The room was very clean; check in staff was friendly and smooth; bed and pillows were comfortable; bathroom was refreshing with toiletries (e.g. shampoo, conditioner, soap, shower cap, vanity kit); fridge was convenient; iron and ironing board; internet was fast; and offerings for use with a provided kettle (e.g. instant coffee, tea, hot chocolate, spoon, cups, glasses). There is also an expensive laundry service that you can send away if necessary. Do note that your windows may be viewable by another person with ease. One issue we found is that there's no nearby outlets towards the head of the bed requiring an extension cord and adapter if you have a medical device.

Deteriorated
I stayed at this hotel two years ago and would have rated it excellent then. I chose to stay here again due to its excellent location. The extractor fan in the bathroom wasn’t working and despite this being reported on the first day nothing was done resulting in condensation throughout the room and a damp environment. The breakfast was fair for the price. The staff were not bothered.

Front desk could be more empathetic towards my req
I made an online booking and paid for the room. On arriving the front desk helper said I should pay an extra $100 for breakages either cash or credit card. To my surprise I had neither as I do not own a credit card and had no cash. Front desk would not give me the key to put my bags in . I had to walk to ASB bank to draw the $100 which was quite annoying and I was requested to pay $30 for parking as well. Not the way I wanted to start my anniversary getaway.

I recently had the pleasure of staying at James Cook, and I can confidently say it was an exceptional experience from start to finish. The room was spotless, spacious, and thoughtfully designed, offering a perfect blend of comfort and modern amenities. The bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night’s sleep, and the view from the window was simply breathtaking. The staff were genuinely welcoming and attentive, always going above and beyond to make sure I felt at home. Whether it was the warm greeting at check-in, their swift assistance with any queries, or the helpful recommendations for local attractions, their service was outstanding. The location was another highlight – conveniently situated next to Wellington Cable Car (able to pass thru the hotel to Lambton Quay), making it easy to explore the area. Overall, James Cook exceeded my expectations in every way. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a memorable and hassle-free stay. I look forward to returning in the future!
