It was lovely fine days full of comfort from the always helpful stuff, gorgeous garden to walk and relax in, and a marvelous cliff overlooking the marina and sea of Funchal. The balcony/terrace was south oriented - full of flowers in pots, with a sunshade, table and chairs - lovely place to take a glass in the evening.
The only small minus was a bit of possible noise from neighbour's room, but that wasn't a problem, rather just a notice.
This was my second time staying at Cliff bay and it was even more exceptional than the first.
The have very low employee turnover so you are remembered which was very nice:-)
The food is world class and the accommodations were amazing, I am already planning my next visit!!!
My husband and I stayed four nights and had a very positive experience. The staff was unfailingly friendly and helpful and allowed us to check in early. The hotel has a low density in terms of number of rooms and a relaxing atmosphere was prevalent. The breakfast buffet (included in price) was excellent and provided a good variety of good quality choices. The pool, while outdoors, was heated sufficiently to allow a swim even when the temperature was on the chilly side. The room was clean...
Our stay here totally exceeded expectations! The grounds are gorgeous and the room was enormous compared to the other hotels we stayed at in Lisbon and Porto. The staff were incredibly sweet and accommodating. The kitchenette in the room was such a welcome surprise. We were able to cook a nice dinner one evening that we enjoyed on the patio overlooking downtown Funchal. Definitely hit the breakfast for 12 euros at least once. It was charming and delicious.
It's been my home for years. Wonderful landscape, pools even sea water pool.
Nice staff good pool Manager and staff, very devoted. It's relative quiet. No loud tacky Americans in sights, people dress
Decently even at dinner. You can chose
A mountain view, a Harbour view, or even
A dedicatedly sea view. I prefer the Harbor view since you see both , sea and Harbor.
Fine dining, especially the Red Lion across the street. Decent food well priced.
Amazing staff with a great location only a few blocks away from the main city center. The pool on the roof has an amazing view for days where you’d like to take a break and relax. The breakfast is solid. Make sure to reserve parking as there are limited spots!!!
We stayed in a studio apartment which was very comfortable. It had a private bathroom, little kitchen, a small balcony with table and chairs for morning coffee. The building is in a great location for walking around Funchal as well as near a parking garage. Highly recommend!
We visit this hotel for the second time and both times very satisfied with our stay. The personnel is very friendly and helpful, rooms are very clean and with modern design, facing mostly partially the ocean. Hotel design is modern and practical, food is extraordinary, a lot of amenities are available - as free group classes at the pool, spa center and entertainment after dinner. It is really a feeling to have vacation in the paradise.
We stayed in this hotel for 3 days in mid July. The hotel is wonderfully situated with views of the sea and/or the garden from many rooms and nice facilities. It's a very pretty property with secure parking and a lovely lobby. The old town is a bit far away, if you're walking, but the promenade is just down the hill and you can walk in each direction.
While I did love staying in this hotel, there were two drawbacks.
This was our least favorite breakfast of our two week stay in Portugal...
Unit was clean & had all amenities needed for a medium length stay. Parking was very difficult as the limited street parking near the building was almost always full — one afternoon it took nearly 1hr to find parking. Apartment we were provided did not match Expedia pictures & did not have a balcony. Funchal area is a good home-base, but would stay further outside of the town center if visiting Madeira again to avoid parking issues as the majority of our time was spent outside of the city...
We stayed there 8 nights in a superior room. The room was nice and clean. We could have better view from the balcon but it was ok. The stuff was always very kind and helpful with us. The breakfast was excellent with everything you wish. Around the swimming pool was enough sun beds and was never crowded. Actually we prefered to stay at the Miramar hotel swimming pool ( less kids and less people there ) The pool bar is great with friendly stuff. Great prices there! Don't miss the Happy Hours...
We were on the island for Funchal Marathon weekend and this place was perfect for the marathon start, as it was about a 3-min walk.
We loved Madeira, and we really liked this hotel. Loads of food options around, a 30min walk to Funchal itself, and a car park about 3mins up the road. We used the car to explore more of the island, and this was a great base.
We would happily stay here again as it was great.
