10/10 Exceptional

Great stay and good location.
Marcey, 2-night trip

6/10 Good

An average & affordable stay in an expensive area

While Chestnuts is a good value for expensive Bourton-on-the-Water, the accommodations were somewhat disappointing. The location is terrific and the breakfast was tasty, but there is minimal hospitality compared to other places we stayed across England. The room was a little dated and the bed wasn’t our favorite; and the shower temperature was hard to fine-tune; it was either hot or cold.

The hosts were absolutely lovely and made the stay so special, even leaving a special hamper as it was my wife’s birthday! The B&B is perfectly placed right in the middle of the village and the rooms were lovely.

The hotel was located right on the Main Street and o we looked the river, that’s fabulous. The room was nice BUT NO A/C and our days and nights were in the 80s! The breakfast was lovely and a full English breakfast. They only have 4 parking spots, so beware! Parking every 90 mins was tricky. But after 6pm, shoppes closed. Must move car 8am! So, travel by train, then do the hiking. It worked out and we have a fabulous time

Great hotel and village

The location was great. We visited several Cotswolds villages. This one was the most pleasant to walk around. The service was great. The full English breakfast was wonderful with eggs(fried or scrambled), bacon, sausage, tomatoes, beans, and toast with creamy butter and an assortment of jams and honey. The young lady working there was very helpful and polite. Overall, a great stay.

Simple and cozy

Charming little place! Nothing fancy but very comfy and cozy and clean. The hosts were incredibly nice and warm. Perfect base for exploring the area. Hard to beat the location. The breakfast was a nice addition.

Great location in the village centre, quiet rooms as well. Parking was available around the rear of the building, out the front was very busy. Good breakfast and choice. Staff kept calm even when we had a power cut.

2/10 Poor

Wouldn't go again.

Very disappointed. Entry through dingy back door. Hallways old dark and in need of decoration. No housekeeping during stay or cups/milk etc. replenished. Although could have done it ourselves. Room very dark. Cave like. Bathroom small and dark. Breakfast good. Not enough parking spaces. Web site leads you to believe that the b&b is on the front of high street. But the picture is of a shop with the same name.

Disappointed

The room was promoted as a Family room. I don't know where any children would have slept if we'd brought any as there was only 1 double bed and and a sofa with broken springs. I know that very old buildings have some quirky features so I expected uneven floors and creaking floorboards but not stained and threadbare carpet. The room was very cold with one small inadequate radiator. But the bathroom was positively arctic as there was no heating at all (don't be fooled by the heated towel rail - it doesn't work) therefore towels never dried and as the room was not serviced as we only stayed 2 nights, the second day's shower was not a pleasant experience. The towels themselves were very small and thin. Saying that, the host was very friendly and welcoming, the breakfast was excellent and the parking was a bonus as the B&B is in an excellent location in the centre of the village and Bourton is a good centre for exploring the Cotswolds.

Shock, but okay in the end.

I hate to leave a bad review of this hotel because it's obvious they care about their hospitality; we enjoyed the employees. The location can't be beat... right in the center of the Cotswolds from what I could tell. It was so nice to be next the the stream and the Motor Museum. We arrived after check-in hours and received a nice welcome note and keys to our room left out. We never did have to check in for the two nights we were there. I never ran into anyone besides the breakfast help. Breakfast was good... the choices 1)a full English breakfast 2) Grilled Banana bread 3) Parfait; we enjoyed them all, but mostly the English breakfast. Breakfast doesn't start until 8:15, I believe. They have you order the night before. We had to leave early the second morning and they were kind enough to throw together 4 parfaits for us. I know there were warnings about sloping floors and the building being old, but I wanted to experience that old world charm. 😁 We came from a gorgeous hotel in Porto, Portugal that was flawless, so this room was a shock to us. It was like entering an old aunt's home. Semi- cluttered, quaint, and not the cleanest. The pillows disgusted me and the carpet was dirty and the bathroom cloogy. In further inspection, the decorative pillows weren't as old and disgusting as I thought. The beds were comfortable, even the pull-out sofa the teenagers slept on. Parking was not easy... only six hotel spots...three in back and three in front

Nice old building. Handy to everything. Nice staff who were helpful. Excellent breakfast. My room was spacious,

The property was in the town centre and close to the river, Birsland the motor museum, plenty of places to eat out. However there were stairs to climb, awkward for my sister in law. The rooms were adequate but the building was dated. The staff however were excellent. Mandy (?) was brilliant, friendly, helpful even though she was always busy she found time to talk and tell us about local places.

A lovely property and wonderful service.location was perfect. Our only grumble is the shower. In our opinion it would suit better for the shower head to be mobile rather than a fixed head. Also the flow was not great. Everything else was perfect 😄

Very old building. So old musky smell. Tiny bathroom. No air con. Service and staff were super friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. Location is good but would find some where a little more updated.

What I liked about this property was that it was right in the centre of Bourton-on-the-Water. What I didn't like was the accessibility to the limited & very compact parking area to the rear of the building. Parking in this location (if not in the B&B parks) is either expensive, restricted or non-existent. Also, on a busy Saturday (when we checked in), with so many tourists in town, the lane to the rear of the building was completely filled with people, making it impossible to identify. This was a hard property to locate (on a busy day). On a week day, this may be a completely different situation. This was the smallest room we had during our month long trip around the UK, and had minimal power outlets. The property is old, & to a certain degree, poorly maintained. Room wasn't very big - our one suitcase had to squeeze in between the wall & the corner of the bed - I had to step over the suitcase to get out from my side of the bed. Bathroom was also very compact and the shower door leaked every time we used it, no matter how careful we were. Passageway to our room had a funky smell about it, that multiple reed diffusers were used in an attempt to camouflage. This just made it worse. In making this comment, I must admit we did not complain about this at the time of our visit. On the plus side, bed was nice and comfy. It was quiet. Breakfasts were good & we had lovely chats with our fellow guests. Lots of options for evening meals within walking distance.

Lovely and cosy place in the centre of the village

The B&B is lovely and cosy and the staff are fantastic. The main entrance was tricky to find and parking was a bit unclear. Although I received information about 6 parking spaces available to guest prior to arriving, they were not that clear on the day. We ended up parking elsewhere. It's not a massive issue but be prepared to pay around £10 per day. Our room was beautifully decorated and had a small shower/ toilet. The building is about 300 years old so do not expect a brand new facilities. It's charming and cosy but it is small. The room was warm and clean. You need to order your breakfast the day before and select one of 4 options at one of 3 sittings. You can choose between porridge, banana bread, granola or Full English and you book your table for 8.30, 9 or 9.30am. In addition to your choice you can have plenty of toasts with jams or marmalade, Weetabix, cereal, coffee, tea, orange and apple juice. The dining room again is cosy and there is not a lot of space with the tables big enough for only two people We had full English and it was delicious and very well prepared. All in all, a lovely place but if like me you enjoy space, you might not be 100% comfortable... My wife liked it for more than me so it shows that opinions are very subjective.

Good central location

Good central location. Room in need of general renovation. Minimal interaction with staff. Breakfast was ok and placed at the table, everything else was self service, find your own cutlery, hot n cold drinks etc.
