Staff were all very friendly and welcoming. Food was nice and had gardens for sunny weather. Was kept clean and a variety of seating. Being an old building there were squeaky floorboards so when parents allowed children to run in their rooms above our heads it sounded horrendous. However from 11pm onward when people had gone to their rooms and children finally in bed it was quiet. They have tried to make an old building as comfortable as they can but can’t do anything about noisy guests. The staff are incredibly welcoming especially David and his brother on reception. Clean and welcoming place to stay.

The room was bright and clean and looked recently refurbished. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was fine except the shower wasn't powerful if you used the handheld head. However the fixed shower head was stronger if you didn't mind getting your hair wet! What really stood out for me was the staff, especially the two brothers who worked there. They were customer friendly and engaging with smiles that lit up a room! A real credit to the hotel and a great asset. Many thanks to them for a lovely stay.

The staff were lovely, the room was clean but the hotel was tired. The meal times advertised were not kept to. We wanted an evening meal on the Sunday. The times advertised were 5.30 - 7.45, but when we asked we were told the kitchen closed at 5 on Sunday. Breakfast was good. The hotel served our needs and was not terrible but we thought it expensive for the facilities offered and would not visit again.

The room was ok, tired, desperately needs updating and the shower had no power so we didn’t use it. Breakfast was pretty awful really, our first morning, we’d booked breakfast for 8:30am but when we went downstairs, the whole hotel was deserted. So we went back up to our room and tried again at 9. A sullen lady told us the chef was running late. We were confused, when we got the menu for breakfast it said breakfast starts at 7:30am. The food was fine and once we finally got breakfast we were satisfied. The second day of our stay was poor. We appeared at 8:45 but there was a young girl on her own, who clearly needed training. She struggled to meet the needs of the customers and couldn’t manage more than one instruction at a time. She’d been left alone which seemed unfair on her. But we had to ask for cereals, then we had to ask for bowls and then milk. My tea was cold and the pot was only 1/4 filled. When I asked for a fresh pot, I got another cold pot only 1/4 full, so I gave up. We had to ask for juice and when we got our order, it was unpleasant to eat. The girl apologised to other customers because she had to go to the shop, for the kitchen, and had forgotten their toast. It was very disappointing to be honest as this hotel is under new ownership…but nothing has changed or improved.

The property was pet friendly and my dog was made welcome. Lovely beer garden at rear which we were able to take advantage of due to the warm and sunny weather during our stay. Only a short walk (about 15 minutes) from the train station and and a lovely big park across the road from the hotel. Not much in Chirk though, with little more than cafes and bistros and bus service looks poor (up to 3hours apart judging by the timetables where provided) compared with other parts of Wales we’ve visited
