Herakleion still has old style Venetian influences in parts. Newly paved in recent years for easy walking around. Market unfortunately now all souvenir shops and old style kafeneos have gone. Good museum.

We enjoyed our time at the Knossos Palace and seeing so much history. People are so very nice and helpful. I would have liked more time in Heraklion, but we spent more time in other areas of the island of Crete.

It is very urban not to many historical points of interest left. That said the dining scene is very good and the shopping is varied and at all price points and interest.

I was in Heraklion mainly to see Minoan sites and I got that done - Knossos and Malia. Hotel Sofia provides a great base for this.

"Close to downtown , rental car companies and the port, not in walkable proximity to the breach. The staff is amazing and they go out of their way to accommodate their guests. Shout out to Ana Maria for her friendliness and hospitality."
"The check in process was easy, lots of restaurants within walking distance and very friendly reception that spoke English. Definitely recommend if you are transporting via ferry, as it is within walking distance. "
