What you need to know before you go

Nagasaki on the northwest coast of Kyushu is the site of the nuclear attack that helped end World War II and offers a scenic harbour, culture, arts and history. If you’re interested in reflecting at the nuclear bomb site, head for Peace Park and the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum, which consists of a peaceful commemorative park and exhibits documenting the event. At Hashima Island, you will have the opportunity to explore abandoned mines and see a location where James Bond films were made. Nagasaki Shinchi Chinatown offers unique culture with historic neighbourhood shops and delicious eateries.

The Nagasaki Penguin Aquarium offers the chance to see local sea life including penguins. Nagasaki Bio Park offers interactive animal encounters. For a serene waterfront experience, have a picnic or take a walk along Nagasaki Seaside Park. For some samurai history, you can visit the Nagasaki Kameyama Shachu Memorial, which commemorates a famous samurai from the Edo period.
