The Inn was wonderful. The innkeepers were warm and charming. Even considering the age of the building (1890ish) it was solid and up to date.just a great two days.

This hidden gem takes you to a different world of Colonial, Moroccan, eclectic era where food is delicious, books to read, board games to play and a glass of wine to forget the world outside. Rooms & common areas are super clean and decorated in a maximalist way that gives you a cozy vibe. Breakfast was delicious and served hot as per your time. I loved going to butler's kitchen to get some popcorn or a can of soft drink. Plenty of Coffee and tea options are there to pick from. If the sky is clear, you are lucky see stars from their patio. I have never seen these many stars. Also, the neighborhood is very safe and I can be out in the dark till late night if I wish to. Jeff and chef Monika are super host, very friendly and super quick with text messages. They were attentive and welcoming. Can't wait to go back for a quality time again!

Jeff and Monika were amazing! I have a restricted diet (AIP-Autoimmune Paleo) and Monika went above and beyond to prepare foods I can eat. This meant the world to me! Everything was so delicious you can really tell she cares about her cooking. Jeff was super helpful with ideas on where to go and what to do around the area. We want to recommend this to everyone!!!!!!!

Love the Chestnut Street Inn
Loved the Chestnut Street Inn. The room was clean and comfortable with a private bath. Monika and Jeff were amazing. Monika is such a talented chef. Dinner is a must and totally worth the cost. Jeff is the definition of welcoming and hospitable. We will be back even if it’s just for dinner.

A Gem!
Staying at this B&B was my anniversary gift to my husband to celebrate our 23 years together. Finding Chestnut Street Inn was pure serendipity as my intention was to initially stay inside Starved Rock State Park. I'm so glad I found Chestnut Street Inn and had the chance to be hosted by these 2 wonderful and talented humans. Thank you Chef Monika and Jeff for the gourmet meals, and warm and friendly accommodation. Unlike other B&B experiences in the past, they're very accommodating but they also give you your own space and privacy. It was a perfect anniversary celebration and I can't thank them enough for the wonderful experience. We're definitely charmed!

Perfect
If you envision what a Bed and Breakfast should be, this would be it. Gracious and humble hosts, excellent cuisine, warm inviting ambiance and the rooms are absolutely spectacular. In my mind, there is no question I will be back to visit the Chestnut Street Inn.

Like Family
My husband and I visit the Sheffield area every couple of years to visit extended family. Monika and Jeff are now part of that extended family. Their home is literally our home when we visit. The rooms are well appointed, clean, quiet and comfortable. Over the years we have stayed in the Green Room, Blue Room and, most recently, the Rosewood Suite (which is quite a treat!). Monika and Jeff attend to your every need, are always available when you need the, but do not intrude into your vacation or relaxation plans. The breakfasts are outstanding, and I highly recommend treating yourself to one of Monika's dinners while you visit. You won't be disappointed. On this last visit, Monika willingly worked around some dietary restrictions that I recently have had. She treated me as one of her own family members, making sure I had what I needed to meet the dietary restrictions and graciously adjusting my breakfasts and dinners to be different than what was planned on the menu. Thanks, Monika!

Great Retreat
I treated myself to a cooking class & overnight stay. Absolutely everything was fabulous & just the retreat I needed. I had to book another stay & class before leaving. The room is very comfortable, they've thought of every thing you may need. Monika's cooking class is excellent, I learned a lot that I can't wait to try. The meals were so good they're dangerous, I ate more at 1sitting than I have in months. I left feeling pampered & happy

Delightful getaway
My husband and I decided on a spontaneous overnight getaway, and we remembered reading about Chestnut Street Inn in Chicago magazine. We had a wonderful time. Our innkeepers were charming, accommodating, interesting people; the food was creative and delicious; the room was nicely decorated and very comfortable; and everything went smoothly! We highly recommend Monika, Jeff and Chestnut Street Inn!

Cozy Wonderful
My sister-in-law got my wife a gift certificate to here for her birthday. I don't know what I expected but I was pleasantly surprised by everything about this place. The owners, Jeff and Monika, were so very gracious and welcoming when we stepped through the front door. We stayed in the burgundy room, which is appointed in burgundy fabrics. It's got a wonderful for poster bed, which is really comfortable. We upgraded our meal to beef, which was totally worth it. The meal consisted of and appetizer which was goat cheese stuffed tomatoes with a couple of sauces followed by a pesto pasta. The main course was a filet with mushrooms and a drizzle of a balsamic reduction sauce, very tasty! Dessert was tiramisu, also very tasty! If breakfast is anything like supper was it'll be amazing. I would definitely stay here again.

First Rate in Every Way
We've dined at the Inn several times, and the cuisine is always wonderful. This was our first overnight stay, and the accommodations were excellent. And an after-meals stroll through this quaint little town with its stately old homes is an added bonus.

Felt like family
Jeff and Monica were great hosts. We felt like we were staying with family or close friends. The food was terrific, as was the room.

Good for biking/golfing in the area and great food
I wish that we could have stayed longer because there were many outdoor activities that we did not have a chance to check-out: there are many bike trails in the area and golfing, too. We spent quite a bit of time in Princeton seeing plays at Festival 56, but we also visited the Owen Lovejoy home--a restored home of an Illinois congressman back in Lincoln's day who helped runaway slaves by hiding them in his attic. We also saw an old one-room school house that was moved next to the Lovejoy home. We also visited Hornbaker botanical gardens and nursery. We also drove to Kewanee to check out the biggest furniture store that I have ever seen--it covered several square blocks. Princeton is about 15 minutes away from Sheffield which is wear the Chestnut Street Inn is. You can park right on the street. All the rooms have refrigerators, TV, and a choice of 1200 movies to watch. Jeff and Monika thought of everything to make the rooms comfortable. And the best part was the breakfast--truly gourmet. We'll be back again next year when we come to see the plays at Festival 56, but we will have our bikes with us.

Wonderful B & B if you're a foodie!
My husband and I were attending a play in nearby Princeton, Illinois, with Festival 56, a summer festival of s6 different plays, plus cabarets, and Shakespeare-in-the-park. In my search for a place to stay, this B and B came up. It is a beautiful old house that has been fixed up for a B & B with 4-5 rooms. The special part is that Monika is a fantastic chef, so the breakfasts are wonderful and different than the usual fare. On our first day, we had lemon-blueberry pancakes, fresh fruit, bacon and was out of this world delicious. The coffee is made early in the morning so you can just come down and help yourself. You tell Monika and Jeff when you want to eat breakfast and voila it is ready on the dot. Also on the weekends, Monika prepares 5 course dinners--we also participated in this foodie experience and had delicious pork tenderloin with red pepper sauce, mashed sweet potatoes, salad, appetizer with scallops, creme brulee for dessert, etc. You can see what they are cooking in advance at their website. The rooms are set up so nicely--everything you could possibly want, plus chocolates in the room, peanut butter cookies in the cookie jar downstairs. Can't say enough!

Fabulous food for our stay
We stayed in the Burgundy Room which had a comfy queen bed, two comfortable chairs for reading, and a desk for writing, There were many hooks in the bathroom to hang up clothes and my toiletry bag. Our breakfast was outstanding--lemon/blueberry pancakes. Plus we stayed in the evening for Monika's 5 course meal which was truly gourmet. I know she was cooking all day to prepare the food and have it ready for the 9 people who were guests that evening. Wonderful!

Beautiful home, delicious breakfast, pleasant stay.
My sister and I wanted a quick get-away that was not too far away. Chestnut Street Inn was perfect! What a hidden treasure! We missed Monika and wish we could have sampled one of her dinners, but Jeff was a wonderful host and served a delicious breakfast. Chestnut Street Inn is a beautiful B & B, great for relaxing . . . we had a coloring book 'party' evening and then the next day took a quick hike on the Hennepin Canal Trail and had lunch in nearby Princeton. What an overall nice experience!!

Beyond Amazing!
Without a doubt, Monika and Jeffs B&B is truly a first class experience! The amount of care, detail, passion, and love they have to host their guests is something special. We enjoyed a delicious 4 course Italian gourmet dinner, had great laughs with Monika and Jeff, amazed by their story coming from Cali, felt the love that Monika had for Celine, Jeff was great to explain the history of their beautiful home, the Rosewood room was great, and finished off the stay with another gourmet breakfast that again, you wouldnt imagine getting in a little small town of Sheffield, IL! We havent stopped recommending it to our friends and family, please dont think twice and book with Monika and Jeff, and cant wait for our next visit! Thank you Monika and Jeff!!!

Birthday getaway
I booked a night at Chestnut Inn as a surprise getaway for my fiancé,,,, It was beyond my expectation. We were greeted by two of the most welcoming hosts I have ever encountered, Monika and Jeff. It only got better from there. The Blue room was very clean and nice but I have to say that the food stole the show. We had a wonderful dinner and breakfast. My fiancé is telling everyone what a wonderful time he had and I look forward to taking a cooking class with Monika in the future. The Butternut Squash soup is beyond compare and Jeff makes a mean cup of coffee. Everyone needs to experience Chestnut Inn !
