Nice old fashioned Scottish hotel. Comfortable bed and linens, great staff and food was delicious. Very accommodating and classic decor. Big room, very clean. Nice garden view. The sound of cooing pigeons each morning was really nice. 15 minute bus to North Berwick, which was a fantastic place to visit and spend time. I would recommend!

Chairs in the room were threadbare on the arms. Door did not fit door jamb. Ancient tv was not fit for purpose. Dead batteries in remote. Food mediocre. Advertised as a garden view room and we were on the main road. Initial view of the property was positive. Excellent location. Attentive staff. Parking convenient

Open Arms is a lovely wee hotel with friendly efficient staff. If you want a relaxing quiet break this is the place. Excellent bus service to both North Berwick and Edinburgh but if you're staying in the village the Castle Inn is worth paying a visit.

The staff were extremely helpful and efficient. The room was spotless huge bathroom comfortable beds. Hotel is in a beautiful conservation village so lovely views we also had a garden room with easy access to lovely garden and seating to chill with a cuppa. Breakfast was excellent. I recommend Open Arms hotel to anyone visiting North Berwick.

I had a very nice stay at the Open Arms Hotel. The staff were very welcoming and made me feel at home. The room was first class with a view over the village green and very comfortable. The lounge area with the open fire is lovely and relaxing being able to have a pre- dinner drink and review the menu. It was a very enjoyable stay and will definitely be returning again in the very near future.

The room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. Check in staff were very helpful. The food was mostly good but there was a bit of an issue with serving the main course and we were left waiting for a long time, with no-one advising what the issue was that was holding up the meal. Unfortunately, the steak was very rare instead of medium but we had waited so long to receive it that my husband did not send it back as it would have meant waiting even longer. Also the amuse bouche that should have been included in the summer set menu did not materialise. Other than that, breakfast was good and served quickly. I found out later there was only one chef which may have explained the delay but it would have been helpful to kept abreast of the situation. However, we enjoyed our stay and the hotel was in an excellent location with parking available, and I would certainly stay there again.

Having dined here several times under the previous owners, this was, however, our first time staying at the Open Arms (now under new ownership). We were not disappointed. Dinner was as delicious as before (though we were sorry to see that the haggis wellington option was no longer on the menu). My partner’s severe pork allergy was catered for with an alternative option for his breakfast & staff seemed well aware of this - thank you. Our room was clean, comfortable & had all the amenities we needed for our stay. (The only thing to mention is that when the shower went on, it made an extremely loud whistling noise throughout which should be looked at.) Relaxing by the fire on a wild & wet afternoon was just the tonic on this short break. The staff cannot be faulted. All were friendly and welcoming, but special mention must go to the dark-haired lady who may be the reception manager (?) who made you feel as if you were a guest in her home. We will definitely be back! Andrew & Claire

Good morning, I just wanted to let you know that I experienced a few problems with breakfast during our stay. Firstly, on Saturday morning, when I asked for a coffee, I was given a half cup of cold black coffee by a young man. I did not say anything at the time. The following morning, I bought my own coffee and noticed that everyone else in the restaurant was being served coffee in a small cafetière. I did not understand why this was not offered to me. Also, on Sunday morning, I ordered Eggs Royale. Instead, I was served two boiled eggs on smoked salmon with what looked like two spoons of mayonnaise. I mentioned to the staff that it was not Eggs Royale, but again I left it, as they did not seem to know how to deal with the issue. We had also booked a table on Friday night and could not understand why there were two different dining rooms — one with tablecloths and one plain. When I made the booking, I believed we would be seated in the main restaurant, as there was nothing on the website explaining the difference. Otherwise, the food on Friday night was good and the bedroom was lovely. However, we travel frequently in Scotland and, unfortunately, I will not be returning.
