Just a bit dated, unfortunately
The breakfast was good but very crowded, bar area was nice and the gym was handy. Unfortunately our room wasn’t the cleanest and was very dated looking. We were also charged an early check in fee even though our room was already ready for us. Which at the time we were happy to pay but upon reflection; we had stayed in another scandic hotel a couple of nights before, not too far from this one and we didn’t have to pay any fees to check in early

Central hotel
Clean hotel near the water and easy to walk to downtown shops and restaurants. Breakfast buffet was good with both hot and cold choices. Room was typical small European size but comfortable.

Well located hotel.
Well located hotel, within 5 minutes walk of the Helsinki attractions, near the ferry port and Upsala Cathedral. Despite being full, the check-in and service was good. Good selection of continental and cooked breakfasts.

Well placed comfortable, if cool, hotel
The hotel Was well placed for access to the main sites. IT was close to the Market square, President's palace, and cathedrals as well as the ferry. Helsinki is not a large city and is very walkable. The room was a moderate size with twin beds. They were quite soft. It appeared there was simply a mattress toper over a spring base. However, this seemed to work and was confortable. There was a desk as well as a comfortable armchair. There were plenty of sockets but no international ones or USB charging ports, so do ensure you bring an adapter. The bathroom with shower (no bath) was functional I did find the room slightly cool and there appeared to be no way of heating it. There is a radiaaor but this was not on. There is also air conditioning but twiddling the temperature seemed to have no effect, either to heat or cool. I was also surprised that the room glasses were never once washed or tidied. I am not sure if this is a Finnish thing or whether I simply had a less fastidious room attendant. Similarly used towels were not changed if hung up and only if left on the floor. The breakfast buffet was generous. Not a worlds worth of cuising, simply a good European spread. Certainly enough to fill up on. In conclusion I liked this hotel. It is in an old dock building and has been converted well. I am likely to stay again when I next return to Finland as I did like the hotel and its position despite a few minor issues

4/10 Fair

I have stayed here before, & was keen to return. However during my stay there were simply not enough staff on duty. Check in took 20 minutes (was over complicated). The room wasn't serviced once in 4 days, so I only had wet towels by the last day. There was no reply when I called Room Service. The bar was closed, though there was a sign saying you could get drinks from reception (a further 20 minutes wait). My room key was disabled after the first night (20 minute queue to rectify the situation). I wanted to raise the issues with Scandic before writing this review, so contacted Scandic via their web site but never got any reply. Scandic are simply running this hotel with too few people, & don't seem to care. I have stayed at Scandic hotels many, many times over the last years, but fear this will be my last. I didn't find a way to complain to Expedia on their web site either.....
