I am an Highworthian, I love the town and love to make visits to see relatives and old friends, and this was the purpose of my recent visit and my reason for booking a weekend at the Saracens Head. I will break my review into two.
Firstly, the pub; friendly, enjoyable food, great ale, well appointed with the bars, restaurant, TV / smokers area and gardens, large car park area, as a modern-day pub I would rate it with 4 stars.
Secondly as a hotel; we were shown into room 8, a twin room, although I was pretty convinced that I had booked a double, but put that down to me. The bed was comfortable and the bedding nice and crisp and clean, great so far.
The furniture in the room consisted of two, 4 drawer cabinets, one with 1 drawer missing, 1 broken, and another with a pull handle missing, the cabinet had been painted but now showed batches of bare wood. The top of the cabinet housed the tea making facility; two random mugs, one spoon and all ingredients stuffed into one bowel.
The second cabinet appeared ok, this one housed the TV; but no controller, so. no TV.
There was no provision for clothes hanging.
There was a single bedside cabinet but no bedside lighting
One painted wall was covered in marks and the brown carpet looked quite dirty.
Following my complaining I was told that the manager would come in and see me by 5.30, well, he did come in but never came to talk to me, I was passed a message informing me that ‘tomorrow I will move to another room and that I would be reimbur
