My friend and I were staying in Weert as our friends were appearing at the Munt Theatre. Saturday was fine. At check-in by a nice waiter we'd been given a key card and told this was for night entrance use after 11pm, due to the restaurant and bars closed. This was to stop guests from helping themselves to drink from the bar! He also said the restaurant would be closed on Sunday. This was not a problem as the hotel boasted a cafe + lounge/bar for residents and we felt this would be sufficient. We just didn't realise the implications of his casual statement. He kindly took my case to our room, which was not large - but very clean. When we got back from the theatre, we used the key card but found the lift was closed off, which meant using a steep spiral staircase. Not good if you have knee problems, as I do. Slept well - and on Sunday, after a good breakfast, we went out to explore. We'd just got back in and the cleaner arrived, so I asked the waiter if we would use the gardens/lounge - he said no, we'd have to go to the park!! On our return, the hotel was completely empty and closed. We had no access to anything, except our room, and a number to ring for assistance. We now knew why we had a kettle in the room! Later on, we went out to eat, but when we returned we were locked out of the hotel! The key card didn't work! We pressed an intercom and after 10 minutes a young lady came and let us in. Dreadful experience - we felt vulnerable (health and safety?) and abandoned!
