We have visited Anchorage several times before, but not in the Winter. Despite the extremely cold weather, we enjoyed the town as well as driving and visiting other towns. Unfortunately, we did not get to see Northern Lights. Maybe next time.....

Excellent
Anchorage is unique among cities that are the largest in any state. For one thing, it's not as old. The population is a bit younger than other states because of the climate and emphasis on the outdoors but there are nice museums as well.

As a Born and Raised Alaskan, I have always enjoyed Anchorage. Not many large cities, "Large being a relative term", has the beauty of the area, biking a walking trails, mountains on one side and a Inlet on the other.

The snow capped mountains surrounding Anchorage are absolutely stunning, and the drive south to Seward was spectacular! We recommend taking the 90 min trolley tour of Anchorage as it was informative and very fun!

My initial impression of Anchorage was that it was very dirty and had a huge homeless issue. A few days later I had a chance to spend an entire day in Anchorage and it's a beautiful city and I felt safe the whole time.

"Older hotel with very friendly staff, clean and partially renovated rooms. Comfortable beds and very quiet. The adjoining restaurant, Pipers, was excellent and had a beautiful patio and great staff as well. Would definitely stay there again!"
"Staff here is key for me coolest I’ve ever met from the reception, house keeping, security even the guests that come here are very cool to meet with and just have a conversation with once in a while and the rooms are equipped with full kitchens and the air conditioner/heater work very well and more than enough channels to find something you are interested in and the Free WiFi is excellent, their is on site laundry and vending machines for detergent and dryer sheets and a Home Depot next to the hotel to get any needs you might have."
"Building drastically needs renovation. According to the employee, renovation will start in December. Beds are comfortable. There is a fridge, coffee maker, coffee, creamers and sugar. Bottle water and soft drinks can be bought at the reception.
Staff is very friendly. So, no complains:-)"
