Great central location and handy to the central railway station. Loved that we could walk out onto the busy street area with plenty of eateries and shops. Stayed in a deluxe room. Very modern room and extremely clean. We were located on the top floor and the stairs are very steep. Not an issues for us but could be problematic for those with mobility issues. Staff very friendly and conveniently located less than 10 mins from central station and dam square. The Hotel van Gelder was one of my favorite hotels during my two week stay in Europe. My superior single room had air conditioning, unlike my other more expensive rooms in Austria, Germany, and Croatia. When I checked in I was greeted by Khalid, a very friendly person who had lots of information about local eateries and places to visit. The room was nice and clean and looks like it was recently remodeled. Some people probably didn't like the steps, but I stayed on the third floor and I didn't mind. If I ever get back to Amsterdam and am traveling alone, I would definitely stay here again.
