Cozy with a touch of tradition
Cozy place, very clean, with a touch of tradition to make you really feel like you're in Japan. We were only in kyoto for 1 night, otherwise I would happily stay here for the rest of the trip!

Great coffee
This hotel is excellent! The staff all speak English very well and were so helpful. The coffee in the lobby was the best hotel coffee I have every had in Japan. I travel once a year to Japan and can say without a doubt that the coffee machines (De’Longhi) they have dispense the most delicious cup of coffee I’ve had in my travels throughout Japan. The breakfast was also outstanding as well.

hey gave me a phone.
It was amazing. We tried the small Japanese and twin western rooms. Japanese rooms are smaller than western rooms as definitely was the case with this hotel but this was made up with the extras including a smart phone with internet we could use to navigate the city, heat/smart toilets and a functional communal area with free tea and water. Though I was a bit lost at times staff seemed willing to help to help me find what I was after (eg Kenzan, and a ramen Restaurant). Location was a bit tucked away but easily within reach of some must see temples. The rooms are cheaper on hotel.com as opposed to on site. I would highly recommend. Pijamas were comfy.

Great for every type of traveler!
This place seems fit for locals and foreign tourists alike. Located in Higashiyama in Eastern Kyoto, it is within walking distance to several temples yet still tucked away in a quiet residential neighborhood. It's easy to get downtown as the Sanjo Keihan subway station is nearby, but if Kawaramachi is your destination you're probably better off walking (it's that close). The Japanese-style room had fragrant tatami mats with comfy futons and floor cushions. The only complaint I have is that the bathroom door blocks access to and from the bathroom when open. That means I had to get out of the bathroom and put on my slippers really close to the hotel room entrance and then close the bathroom door before I could re-enter the bedroom; it made midnight bathroom trips a hassle. Breakfast was tasty and filling but I would have appreciated more options. There are two set meal choices: Japanese and Western, but only those who choose Western are allowed to have juice (that's not exactly the equivalent of miso soup if you ask me). I'd stay here again for the location and homey atmosphere, but if having OJ in the morning means foregoing fish and rice for eggs and toast that's exactly what I'll do!
