Quirky, old friendly pub.

Beautiful, quirky old building with a lovely pub downstairs. The staff we encountered were very friendly and polite. Note that it can be challenging to drive there if you follow certain phone directions like we did! But when we left we were told an easier way to leave the immediate area and that was so much better.

Great, proper country pub with b&b!

I booked two nights for myself and my 12 yr old daughter. I was looking for somewhere with a bit of character, that was away from all the noise and bustle, had a good breakfast to set us up for the day and food available in the evening. I was not disappointed. The Weary Friar was such a great little find, a proper country pub with great food (nothing too fancy), friendly staff and peace and quiet to wake up to. Will definitely head there again!

Lovely , comfortable stsy. We arrived very early but were able to buy ourselves a breakfast and were given a key for when we returned from a family wedding nearby. The staff were absolutely brilliant.

8/10 Very good

A village inn in essence, bigger than expected, well looked after and clean with pleasant, helpful staff. Plenty of parking and quiet. Good bar choice and would stay there again. The only slight letdown was the Sunday roast lunch which was over-cooked and tasted and looked like it had been kept warm for hours. The other meals were adequate.

A hidden treasure

Cannot fault friendliness of the staff nor the food. Absolutely amazing service from Amanda, Daisy and Aaron and the rest of the team here. It’s my first visit and I’ve already booked to stay for each month for the rest of the year due to work. Large carpark, good WiFi, safe and welcoming. What more could you want. It’s a hidden treasure.

6/10 Good

Lovely staff, disappointing otherwise

The one real positive during this stay was the staff, they were all very friendly and welcoming from arrival through to breakfast so thank you. However, the stay itself was quite disappointing. The room was cold, the basic bathroom was freezing and the bed was uncomfortable and you can feel the springs. The food was sadly very average at best and if I had paid separately for breakfast I would have asked for my money back. I’m not a hater but I won’t be staying again and wouldn’t recommend it (sorry to the fabulous staff).

The Friar's Rest

Had a brilliant few nights at The Weary Friar. We stayed in The Friar’s Rest, which is a separate cottage just next to the pub. Really peaceful and quiet — perfect for switching off. The cottage was spotless, well looked after, and had everything we needed, including a proper kitchen (though we mostly ate at the pub!). Breakfast was great every morning — decent portions and really good quality. We had dinner there a couple of times as well — can highly recommend the fish and chips. The pub itself is really welcoming, with a nice atmosphere, and the staff were lovely — friendly, helpful, and made everything easy from the moment we arrived. The surrounding area is beautiful, proper countryside. Plenty of parking too, and it was easy to find. All in all, a great little break — would definitely go back.

In the deep countryside yet popular with locals and visitors. Great pub restaurant vibe. Breakfast could be improved with fresh fruit and yoghurts available. The staff were absolutely on the ball.

Lovely staff

Very clean, amazing place for its age. Food good, very friendly staff.
STUART, 3-night trip

8/10 Very good

A weird mix, to start, it is a beautiful spot with lovely views next door to an old church. Nice warm welcome, lovely clean, comfortable room. The bed was comfortable, the area very quiet so expect a good sleep! There is a nice note about the new staff working so please be patient, but some basics were just missed. I watched tables being wiped down where the food was just brushed onto the floor, the tables themselves were sticky. I saw four tables go to the bar and ask to pay their bill. The food is ok, I would certainly debate how much is frozen food compared to the "home cooked" I just feel for the money asked to stay, a higher quality of food and basic service could be expected.

Lovely place and village and although we were eating out the meal options looked good and the breakfast was lovely. Downside, difficult getting a taxi, got one in the end but definitely pre book taxi as early as you can, other occasions, I wouldn’t of needed a taxi, only a minor thing this, would stay again though
