Great value and convenient location.

The Gainesville Lodge is an excellent value in an otherwise pricey market. I stayed there three nights. This sleeper motel is located within walking distance of the University of Florida and the active nightlife up and down west University Blvd which runs in front of the establishment. Im personally a fan of retro motor lodging and this motel fits the bill. Despite its age, the rooms were clean and had been updated, the a/c was bonechilling cold at the height of a swampy summer and the manager who apparently lives on site was friendly and helpful. The mattress was comfortable, television good, shower clean and room spacious. This motel feels a bit like the Alamo with its walled off horshoe shape that requires visitors to go past a front office in order to enter or exit the property. This provides good separation from the stream of human traffic on the sidewalks of West University. I was in Gainesville in mid summer and still deep into the plandemic, so it was unusually quiet on the streets and i felt safe and comfortable walking to nearby restaurants and attractions. My favorite discovery was Flaco's Tacos which is a two minute walk from motel. For six bucks, you get two overstuffed delicious Tacos. I recommend the shredded pork. Speaking of great values, did I mention I booked this motel room for 63 bucks a night?

ell worth the money, and more

This facility is old and in the downtown area, however I enjoyed it. Not the Hilton but an economical motel which earned it's price. Clean, comfortable, safe, good internet, good T.V., hot water and good air/heat. My go to place on my next visit.....

Got in late. Proprietress showed me the room ropes. Took a walk. Enjoyed walk in shower. Slept. Left in morning !

Inexpensive and convenient location

Inexpensive and excellent location. Service prompt. Décor dated, but everything worked, except for a couple of light bulbs. Hot water came on quickly. Plenty of parking. Lots of dining choices close by.

One of the worst hotels I've ever stayed at

My wife and I were in town for the night for an event, and I booked this hotel due to its close proximity to the venue and its good rating on hotels.com. At the time I booked it, it was close to 8/10 stars. Apparently, I should have looked for reviews elsewhere, and probably shouldn't have even used hotels.com. This was one of the worst lodging experiences I've ever experienced! The lady at the front desk was rude to us from the moment we checked in. That was the first red flag. There was an awful, musty smell throughout the whole property. That was the second. There were vagrants wandering around in the parking lot. That should have been strike three. At first glance, at least the room looked clean, by motel standards. And since we were just going to be in town for the night, I convinced my wife to give the place a chance. This was a mistake. We got back from our event after midnight, and I went right to sleep - only to be awakened by my wife at 2:00 a.m. She found MULTIPLE ROACHES CRAWLING AROUND IN THE BED! Understandably, she was completely unable to sleep for the remainder of the night, and we left as soon as it was light enough outside to drive (I have a medical condition that makes it very difficult for me to drive at night). Since the staff was so horribly rude to us during check-in, and because of the dangerous-looking vagrants wandering around outside, we didn't even try getting a different room in the middle of the night but stayed in with the bugs (pictured)

Definitely a rent a room for whatever or however long. Long term tenants grilling out in the parking lot and basically "hanging out."
