The Spice Tree was fantastic. It was clean and well located and we had the best night's sleep we had in Africa in our stay here. The room was air conditioned and the shower was awesome. Sometimes it's the small things. The breakfast was also incredible and included. If I were ever to visit Stone Town again, I'd stay here for sure.

Nice place to stay, however u can hear the noise from the hallway n next door. I wish they had grab bars near the toilet seat which is quite low. Older people with arthritic knees like me would have problem rising from the seat. Other than that the hotel is very pleasant.

The room was dingy, it was dark. The bathroom had grout stains on the floor. It felt very dirty. I was surprised it was a marriott. It felt like a motel. The bed was not comfortable. The concierge was not helpful. We asked for restaurant suggestions, they couldnt give us any recommendations. We requested to arrange for a boat tour to the neighboring island, they couldnt arrange it for us. Instead, gave us a number and told us to do it. Never had that experience from any hotel in the past. The lobby was so hot! No AC, and they told me they switched it off because the employee was feeling cold.

Its only good.for its location and thats it. I dont understand how its a 4 star. The place is badly run with what appears almost to be student's and its a Marriot. The whole place needs a refurb. The icing on the cake was the draggjng of the heavy furniture for 2 nights out of our 3. The noise disruption was so bad and kept us awake. We can only assume as we were on the 4th floor and the 5th floor has the restaurant come bar it was that. But that closes at 10pm and the nois for the 2 nights continued to 4am. Not constant but loud crashes. Plus the house keeping staff shout early morning and bang the doors too. So if you want any sleep you wont get it. Aircon also does nt work properly

Excellent location and overall great service. A few things can be improved given the price. - Breakfast is very bland and could use improvement—fresher breads (ideally baked daily), ripe fruit (two days I was there, the fruit served wasn't ripe), better training of the chef who makes omelets; they were often overcooked; have an option for adding cheese to the omelets which wasn't available. For $17, the breakfast was wanting. - The room was musty, likely related to the high humidity environment and the fact that they don't keep AC throughout. Investing in baseline AC could improve this. - Attention to detail in the room service, e.g, shampoo ran out and I had to ask for it despite daily service. Otherwise excellent hotel.

Good location and affordable in comparison to other hotels nearby. Staff initially put us into a room which had a strong smell, and then moved us to another room promptly once we raised the issue. This happened once again, but they were still accommodating and gave us a room which was fit for purpose.
