Unfortunately, this was one of the worst accommodation experiences I've had.
When we arrived, the front door had been left wide open and there was nobody there to greet us. The property was in a very poor state, with dozens of cigarette butts scattered around, despite the listing stating that it was a smoke-free property. The kitchen was extremely dirty, and the back of the house appeared to be used as a dumping area, with rubbish piled up everywhere.
When the landlord eventually arrived, he asked us to wait outside while he went inside to clean the property before we could enter, which took quite some time. It was obvious the accommodation had not been prepared for our arrival. There was also an ashtray in the bedroom, which completely contradicted the claim that the property was smoke-free and pet-free.
While we were there, the landlord and his partner became involved in a loud argument, shouting at each other in front of a young child. It was an extremely uncomfortable and distressing situation to witness, and I was genuinely concerned for the child's wellbeing. At that point, I decided I no longer felt comfortable staying at the property and immediately booked alternative accommodation.
I informed Hotels.com of the situation and left without spending a single night at the property. Although they refunded one night's stay, I received no further compensation despite having to find alternative accommodation at short notice.
