We discovered this gem about 2 years ago and we continue to return (every time I have booked another resort, I have ended up cancelling and we go back to JOIA/Grand Paraiso, it’s a “sure thing”!)
What makes us such big fans?
-spectacular, over the top facilities and decor (beyond impressive lobby, marble everywhere, gorgeous finishings and fixtures, flowers, lush grounds…)
-All restaurants are air conditioned, with a very high end atmosphere
-exceptional food
-top shelf liquor/masterfully prepared cocktails
-friendly and welcoming staff that go above and beyond
-we have not had problems getting into our desired restaurants
-ample pool chairs with shade options, we have never had to get out early to “compete” for a spot (as is so often the case at other resorts)
We previously were loyal guests at Excellence Playa Mujeres for over a decade (more than 20 trips) but JOIA has become our new “go to”. This resort is packed with repeat guests who have come to appreciate everything that makes this place so special. Looking forward to our return next month!

Beautiful property. We had the VIP access and our butlers were good or excellent for our stay. The food options are great. We would highly recommend the buffet and all of the restaurants with the exception of the Japanese hibachi. We will definitely be back.

Loved the place! All the hope is real. The service is amazing and the food is superb. We loved spending time on the beach. We upgraded the room To build in 70, which was worth it. Many thanks to Cynthia, who taught great classes to all the butlers, angel, Cesar,, The woman whose name I can’t remember. The lady at the star Café who goes by monkey. Daniela at the juice bar - so sweet! Was one of the best trips as far as the resort goes! Highly recommend

Best room I've ever stayed in, it was the private villa. Staff was great.
We had a couple of issues like we got a wake up call at 4 am we didn't request, they didn't refill our shower soap or little towels, our room service order was messed up twice, there weren't a lot of vegan options at the buffet, there weren't enough serving spoons at the buffet so the cross contamination was wild.
A lot of little details went wrong that shouldn't have since we were staying at the VIP villas. The facilities were absolutely amazing. The staff tried to make everything right after the fact. Our butler service was the best!
The dinner restaurants were delicious, especially the hibachi one.

The hotel itself is very beautiful, staff is great except at restaurants. They are bothered and rushing to get you in and out. Unfortunately if you are not a member you are second rate. We scheduled reservations to multiple restaurants with the concierge upon check in. Every reservation was non existent. We found out on the reservation date that restaurants were closed on said day. When we tried to get in at a first come first serve restaurant we were quoted 20min (restaurant only has 4 tables occupied out at 25). After an hour of waiting, multiple tables were strategically given to members who arrived after us and were not on the waiting list. Multiple groups were upset and confronted the host about their lack of communication. Once seated we had approximately 5min to order because “the restaurant is now full and our kitchen staff cannot accommodate”. I wish there was more awareness towards non members. Maybe their memberships would grow if they accommodated everyone equally.
