I booked this hotel based on its four-star rating on Expedia and high guest reviews, but I feel the ratings may be misleading, and I regret not paying more attention to the negative reviews, as they turned out to be more accurate. There is no dedicated parking at the hotel, and you’ll find yourself parking in the surrounding sketchy neighborhood, which is not ideal particularly at night. The area, which is near Temple University, feels unsafe and there are abandoned buildings across the street from the hotel. I use the term “hotel” loosely, as the place doesn't offer the experience one might expect from a four-star establishment. There is no traditional front desk service, as check-in is handled by someone from a third-party company, and check-in consists of signing in on a legal pad. The stale atmosphere in the common areas—both in terms of smell and aesthetics—left a lot to be desired. Given the overall disappointing conditions, I chose not to even enter the room and immediately requested a refund, which was unfortunately denied. If you're a young traveler looking for a basic, no-frills place to sleep and don’t mind the area, this hotel might work for you. However, if you’re seeking a more refined experience or planning a romantic getaway, I would advise looking elsewhere.

The studio was nice and the Front Desk was very helpful. They advertised Free Parking- which was not the case. We found out the day before that the "Free Parking" was actually street parking. We drove in very late around 10:30 pm the host did recommend 2 lots within a couple miles of the property- however when we attempted to use those lots, tbey did not offer over night parking- tbey were limited to 5 hours only. We were able to find street parking- but we had to move our vehicle at 6:30am due to being a school day. Thus was not a great way to start our vacation. The room itself was very clean and quaint. It was also very close to the venue where we were attending a Concert. We chose this place because of the advertised "free parking" and that was not the case. The room was great- but parking was a major issue.

The apartment itself was fine, but there was no replacement toilet paper around and I realized this during hours when the owner/management were unreachable; while I could’ve been replenished in the morning, I had to leave. It was too late.

The property was easy to get to and the space was clean. The hosts was really attentive and provided great instructions. The only doenside was the construction happening in front of the entrance. Really hard to dropoff and to get in the area.

Lovely stay

We had the gallery apartment at the Civic. There neighborhood was quiet and there was a nice convenience store nearby to get any basic necessities and groceries. It was a great space, plenty of room and airy with high ceilings like that of a loft style apartment. Amenities in the kitchen were plentiful and even some basic ingredients like butter and salt were provided. My only negative point would be that the blinds are quite see through and if your windows face the street, it can be quite bright still and made it harder to fall asleep.

Nice apt for affordable stay

The building itself was recently renovated inside with new decor and modern furnishings. There is a brewery with good food right downstairs in the same building and they have a beer garden/gated patio area. The rooftop terrace is only accessible until until 5pm, we were the only ones on the rooftop on a Friday around 4:30pm. We didn’t see a single person using any of the common spaces on our floor 3 or the main lobby floor and it seems the building is largely empty of permanent tenants. There is not always a person at the lobby desk. We mostly encountered short term visitors. The subway is a block away but the surrounding area feels largely abandoned with not much activity and not many people walking around. The street was littered with trash blowing around. Building right across the street is gutted and being renovated. The parking lot is a stone gravel lot across the street from the building but you must drive around the block to access the entrance. Overall the stay was fine, nice studio apt. I was in Philly for a conference downtown and my husband was with me for the weekend. Building interior was new. No shampoo or body wash provided though it was on the listing, and only 1 wash cloth. The ac and fan worked great and there was a smart tv and table and 2 chairs. Nice new kitchen amenities and full fridge was a plus. Overall building was very quiet with some noise from the streets. Would stay here again as the price was very affordable.
