One of Reedsburg’s most prominent homes was finished in 1910 for Ralph P. and Helen Perry and their three daughters. Ralph Perry was educated as an attorney and served as a district attorney when he was only 25 years old. At the time the house was built he was president of a Reedsburg State Bank. The Perry family’s standing in the community was expressed through the grand Neoclassical design of the home which included two-story columns, a modillion cornice, and classical balustrades. The interior of the home features a dining room with a beamed ceiling, a study with built-in bookcases, and five bedrooms. Great care has been taken of Perry House for decades.
Entering Perry House from the rocking chair front porch one gets the feeling of a grand home. You enter into the vestibule which leads into the large front hall. This room at one time was used to greet guests and was a doctor’s reception area for a period in the 1950s. You will notice the original 112-year-old floors and a brick wood burning fireplace. The grand staircase with leaded glass windows above leads to the second floor.
To the right in the front hall there is a ½ bath and a cozy library perfect for reading or watching a movie. We provide a 55in TV. This room has original bookcases with glassed cabinet doors. There are various books that guests are welcome to view and read. We also have porcelain items from Europe and an antique bronze statue of an angel that originated from France. The room also has a queen size sofa bed.
The dining room is also accessible from the front hall on the right. This room has a twelve-foot antique dining table that seats 10 comfortably. Extra dining chairs are available in the basement area to seat 2 more. The walls have muraled wallpaper and two cabinets plus a buffet. There is a large collection of uranium glass and other antique dishes. The cabinets are locked for insurance purposes. To the rear of the dining room is the 3-season porch with beaming morning sunlight. The room has leaded glass doors. Additional uranium glass and other items are on displace.
The living room is on the west side featuring a large marble fireplace with window seats on each side. There is original art throughout the house. Multiple vintage impressionists and still life oil paintings compliment the room, each with their own story. French doors to the back lead to a 3-season porch with a glass table with chairs plus a rocking chair. There is another display cabinet with porcelain items from Europe. Like the other floors, the wood has been restored to its original oil finish.
Under the front staircase there is a door to the back hall. The area has 2-closets and the back staircase. This staircase was used in the early years by the servants to access the second and 3rd floor. A mudroom is off this area. The backdoor will be the main entry point went guests first arrive. The mudroom includes the door to a huge laundry room that includes a toilet room. This toilet was originally used by the servants. We provide a large, high-end washer and dryer set. The room also includes the original enamel table for folding laundry.
The kitchen has been updated to include a large picture windows overlooking the backyard. There is a Temple Stuart dining table and chairs that seats 6. There is plenty of counter space and storage. We include one of the best stocked kitchens for cooking and serving including a complete set of vintage Corelle ware from the 1970s. Photos are provided. The kitchen has a refrigerator with icemaker, dishwasher, range, coffee pot toaster, blender, mixer and crockpot/cooker.
Taking the main staircase to the second floor takes you to 5 bedrooms. The hallway has built in bookcases and more collections. This area has a collection of tea cups and saucers from England, Germany and France. We provide cotton sheets and towel sets. There are extra blankets and comforters. Each bedroom is well appointed and has the charm from previous days. There are 2-full baths with original tilework and fixtures. The toilets and vanities have been updated to today’s standard.
The property sits on an acre and you have the entire home to yourself. The garage and storage shed are off limits.
