Comfortable, great price and wonderful pool

I loved the charm of this old fashioned hotel. We had access to the lovely pool/hot tub next door. I loved the balcony and enjoyed my coffee there every day. The price was very good , considering it was peak season- August. The prices for breakfast were very high, so we bought things from the local store and enjoyed breakfast on the balcony. The room was clean,and they gave new towels whenever we asked.

A hotel should be a quiet place...

A hotel needs to be a quiet place. With that said, we were on the main floor in a wheelchair accessable room (#111 no balcony), 1 queen bed (which was very comfortable) with a view of the river. The staff were amazing! Always helpful, well trained and friendly. The hotel is quite old but you never see because it has been extremely well maintained, unless you happen to notice the retro elevator buttons (which were cool and in pristine shape). It is the only hotel we could find in a decent price range in Banff (Hello! Tourist zone!) that included a fridge (it will freeze your food if you don't keep an eye on it). Kettles are available upon request and I saw a microwave on a carrier so that might be a possibility as well. The hotel is nicely renovated and I was pleasantly surprised by the high standards of cleanliness (because I can be picky about that), hats off to the cleaning crew, well done! The bad news: the walls (on the 1st floor at least) are paper thin, you are going to hear pretty much everything; babies crying down the hall, neighbors doing their thing, everyone's conversations. The doors have no cushion, they close very loudly (this one thing can easily be remedied with felt between the slabs and door frames, management?) so you will hear the doors slam of everyone who comes and goes from their rooms. If your window is open at night you will hear the train as well and there is no A/C that I am aware of (I don't use it anyway).

A place to avoid

The stay was so so at best, more like sucked. While they do have a router and will provide a password for wifi, there is no internet! We booked a specific room, but were put in a lesser noisy room when we in fact, the one we specifically avoided based on a not on hotels.com. In light of the fact that Banff was all sold out we were stuck. And the staff took full advantage of the situation. The keys demagnetized after each use, leaving us spending time waiting in line several times a day waiting for reactivation. Staff seemed to care less about the guest, paying guest. You would think the hospitality industry would have learned something during COVID, but this place did not. Exhaust all other choices before forcing yourself to settle for this place.

Great quality/price

Was great considering it was the cheapest hôtel in Banff. Biggest downside is that there was no AC... but they supplied a fan and nights are cool in banff so we still slept well. Super well located, close to everything yet still quiet by the river.

No AC in The room. Given small fan to survive 40 degree heat wave. They told me to direct it to the window when they refused to give me another fan. It was about 30 degrees in the room!!! I do not recommend during summer at all. During winter it might be a good old hotel to stay.

I booked a king room with a view of the bow river Instead Expedia and Bow view lodge moved me without consent to looking over the dingy parking lot I don’t think I will book through Expedia ever again People should get what they pay for and have ordered
