We were really looking forward to our stay, but unfortunately we left feeling disappointed.
The biggest letdown was the quality of the bedroom. The carpet was threadbare, the bathroom was very dated with cracks in the sink, and there were toothpaste splashes on the bath panel. Surfaces like the lamps, TV and pictures were dusty, and the cups were cracked with a dirty spoon provided. The shower was poor – very weak pressure and it kept falling off – and Wi-Fi in the room was unreliable, making it hard to use the internet. The main corridor carpets were also very worn and the area was in need of redecoration. Overall, the room felt tired and uncared for, and not at all what we expected for the price.
We were also disappointed that use of the swimming pool wasn’t included in the stay. It’s the first thing you see in the hotel’s marketing photos, which feels quite misleading.
On the positive side, the hotel grounds are lovely. The drive up is really impressive, the building itself is stunning from the outside, and the golf course and spa look great. Reception, the bar and the breakfast area appear recently refurbished and have a really nice atmosphere. Breakfast was buffet-style with a good variety – a full English along with pastries, toast, fruit and yoghurts. Staff were friendly and welcoming throughout, and we really appreciated the complimentary drink to celebrate our anniversary.
